Hello, this is Beth Dewell for the Mars Exploration Rover Flight Director report for January 12th 2005.

On Spirit today is sol 366 at the beginning of the day. On sol 365 we drove 2.7 meters. We’re currently in a long campaign to reach Larry’s Lookout. It’s been tough for us because we’ve had a lot of slippage and the rover drivers have been trying various things to progress. On sol 366 our plan is to have another ten meter drive to make more progress towards Larry’s Lookout.

On the other side of the planet on Opportunity we’re in the middle of a heatshield campaign. Today is currently sol 345 at the end of the day. We’re waiting for our data to come back from 345. On sol 344 we […] the IDD, performed heatshield imaging and then bumped to a new location for more heatshield imaging. On sol 345 our plan was to drive towards ‘Heatshield Rock’, which is a very interesting rock for the scientists. They’ve noticed that it has a load of […]vity and it’s not characteristic of other rocks so far that we’ve seen on Mars.

That’s what’s happening on mars today.
