Did you see this anemometer animation?

I wonder if it can double as a visual seismograph?

I wonder if wind speed measurements from this instrument need to be recalibrated because there seems to be a permanent kink in the thread and the upper part is rigid.
If a particular amount of deflection has been calibrated to a particular wind speed during Earth based measurements, those measurements I would think need to
be redone with a similarly bent and frozen thread.

Any gueses as to what happened to the thread? Moisture froze it solid? Just got bent and stuck during the long cruise?

A new lager animation of the wind "sock".
Now with the image!

Ha ha, so funny laugh.gif

A little bit off topic, there was a very simple seismograph that the ancient Chinese used here http://geology.about.com/library/weekly/aa070598.htm
