Unmanned Spaceflight.com _ Chit Chat _ Martian meteorite

I've just bought a chunk of Martian meteorite NWA 4925.

...Well, chunk is maybe a bit of a misnomer, since this masses about 8mg.

But it is a bit of Mars. On my desk. After all these years seeing Mars through cruddy telescopes, not-bad binoculars, a slightly better telescope, and for the last few years in close-up through the eyes of the rovers and Phoenix, how utterly extraordinary.

It's rather moving.

I know EXACTLY how you're feeling, Andy. I have some tiny samples of Mars myself - I take them around schools as part of my Outreach work - and whenever I get them out to look at them myself I genuinely feel the hairs on my neck stand on end. I look at them and think "Those are little pieces of Mars, in that tiny phial... that's Rock From Mars..."

Enjoy, and treasure, your little piece of Barsoom. smile.gif
