Those mountains look from the map like they might be part of the big complex to the east and northeast of Ukko Patera about 10W 40N.

Are those a couple on the terminator, too?

I thought I saw one on the center limb. Didn't realize that the Tvashtar plume was clearly visible in your pic.

Damn. Looks like two of them. Didn't notice Tvashtar popping off too!

Edit...oopsie. My monitor washed out ugordon's pic. This is awesome.

<clink> Tvashtar still has that enormous ring.

I have the impression that the filter at this wavelength "sees through" the polar ring clouds, and the linear cloud (deeper? denser?) visible in the image is opaque at this window of the spectrum. Not sure of the how and why. Anybody know what Cassini's filter sensitivities do in regards to cloud composition and/or density?

Using Phil Stooke's rough polar projection(and suggestion) and the equally rough 70N+ radar composite, this is my unSWAG as to the correlation, assuming one exists. The positions of objects in this map may actually only be accurate in another solar system. ph34r.gif

I finished this composite just before I read your post JRehling, so my guesstimates are off. Thanks for the coordinates. This must be a pretty massive "lake". Thrilling news about the potential for RADAR coverage!

EDIT: Jeez, Phil, I totally missed yours too! Thanks!

Olvegg, I used your map template for this overlay. The grid lines are missing, but the T18 lakes were dead on in agreement in terms of longitude. This version is part of a post(credited) in the T25 thread used in an effort to locate the new dark features near the terminator.

Wow. Anyone more skilled at cartography might be able to tell if these polar features have any longitudinal correlation with the big lakes visible in the T19 swath:

Here's an update with the T18 swath released today. Positional accuracy is questionable. Olvegg, if you'd like to take a crack at adding this to your map, let me know how close we are with the smaller lakes visible in the new track. As with the earlier post, this is of course just a tide-over until the official version comes out...

Here's a preliminary geologic map of Ganesa from the 2006 LPSC abstract "Eruption of Ammonia-Water Cryomagmas on Titan 2: Eruption Styles and Landfroms". The abstract is found on pp.44-45 of the PDF linked below. Fascinating stuff:

Ganesa Macula in simulated perspective:

This is a decidedly non-expert opinion, but this thing sure looks familiar. The shape and flow features to the east make a pretty convincing case.

QUOTE (nprev @ Feb 17 2007, 01:14 PM) *
No, the vertical one. If you look closely, the ridge curves to the right a bit on the lower side of the "bottom" lake. I don't think this is an artifact, since it's clearly interrupted by another lake as well. In fact, a little further down from there there is a small hill that looks as if it might have been part of the ridge at one time.

Okay. Now I see it. I can't wait for the DEMs of this area.

Olvegg: Excellent!!!

It certainly does seem like there's a lot of visible topography in this area, but with these RADAR images, I'm never sure. Something about 600m walls around these lakes in another thread...really looking forward to increased coverage of this region on future passes, in addition to eventual ISS imagery. I love this moon, and especially love the puzzle-piece buildup of data, one flyby at a time. Reminds me of those goofy Advent calendars I had as a kid...or that life-size cardboard cutout striptease in either Bull Durham or Major League...I can't remember which. I think I may have just reduced my apparent IQ... unsure.gif

EDIT:nprev, are you referring to the vertical line (in this view) in your highlighted area? If so, I think that's an artifact of the imaging process. If it's the horizontal feature, I think I see what you mean.

Here is a manual stitch of forty screencaps from the quicktime movie in an attempt to show as much of the lake district as possible. Rectangular gaps are due to areas missed in the movie's zig-zag simulated flyover. The T18 swath was not shown in detail and is excluded.

EDIT: T19 swath patched with familliar PIA releases. Images and movie courtesy NASA/JPL.

Okay, I'm just glad I'm not seeing deceased religious figures in the proverbial spaghetti. The right-hand side is more convincing to me as well. I think the left-hand "margin" I outlined is more likely a coincidental string of relatively fresh craters.

This might be best evaluated by Ted Stryk and Phil Stooke. For Phil, I was wondering if the area marked with the pink ellipses in these two perspectives was identified as a candidate impact basin from Voyager imagery, and if not, if it looks like a very degraded basin to you. For both Ted and Phil: could it just be artifacts from the sharpening process?

I just came across these today, and don't remember having seen them at all before. They obviously seem to have been taken at the same time as the crescent mosaic. Just wanted to share:
