Katie is indeed nothing but a "pretty" evening news autocue reader. She'll always be in 3rd place too in the ratings. CBS also had a guy on that had lost a child at the Columbine shooting, and before you knew it he was spouting off about how Abortion was bad, sheesh !.

Maybe they are taking a picture of the tracks now, for comparision after solar conjunction, if Oppy is indeed parked at THE conjuction position for the next 3 or 4 weeks.

The Rover drivers know what they are doing. Remember even the tilt paramter of say 30 degrees will stop the rover dead in its tracks. Cabo Verde is not a 90 degree drop off by any means, infact I don't think any of the cliffs are, they all seem to have a slope then a drop. They also have several other s/w parameters to stop a rover driving over a cliff.

I too thought it was a huge cliff, and was a bit dissapointed when it turned out to be a few cm tall. Endurance made up for that though, and now we have Victoria and maybe later some part of Big Crater and its rim.

My understanding is the dark streaks are where dust has been removed from the surface. We would want Oppy to have that done to her of course, but I think that only happens during the Martian summer, and we are in winter at the moment.

I wonder if they will change thier minds and drive to the Beacon to do the panorama, seems a better spot to me being the highest point, and it also sticks out into the crater more than Verde.

Looks like Oppy did a curving turn rather than a stop and go turn.

I think if you look around the crater you will see that the cliffs do't extend down 50% of the way into the crater, certainly the far bluffs look closer to 12m than 30m. Time to load up Agorimancer's parallax calculator.

The near cliffs are higher, 30.5 m wink.gif

The crater is quoted as being 230 feet deep ? Those cliffs look about just less than half the depth, 100 feet, 33m, by my rough guestimating..............

How tall is that feature? I can't get a sense of scale!

I'd say about 80 to 100 feet high.
