How tall is that feature? I can't get a sense of scale!

Thats an ongoing problem with Mars as there is nothing to compare the scale to from Earth.

I wouldn't put that as a certain entry point....it looks like it might be 30ish degrees. BUT...given that the MOC work shows the far side to be less steep than this side....I would be very hopefull of an ingress AND egress point on the SE side.

Doug

Its less than 30 degrees Doug.

The surface down to Cape Verdi looks like the test surface they constructed when they were testing before entering Endurance.

Thanks Doug, I have often wondered about that, I could have course looked up the wheel diameter myself and done the mathematics, but I knew someone here would know it. I think a drive down to Cape Verde on the left is in order next week.

Significantly closer! We may now be able to see the surface of Duck bay from the cameras on the mast.

You can see the shadow of the mast pointing at the left hand cape.

Looks like the best choices for entering Victoria are on this side. Can't tell yet what the slope is like behind the bluff on the South side?

I wonder if Tiger Woods could hit a golf ball to the other side???

Tiger cannot hit a ball 800 meters.

I think you could fit two of my local NFL Football stadium inside Victoria........the field is of course 100 yards long. Could someone superimpose 2 of these inside Victoria for me ?

Thanks.

Some of those rocks that have fallen down the left hand side of the crater, in the mid distance, have to be 10 feet tall don't they ?

Is this real, or is it a better fake than Pando's?
If it is real, it is a little disappointing in terms of the scientific studies that look possible.

I think you don't know what your talking about - IMHO.

The twin peaks are on the north rim of the big crater, roughly 18 to 20km away I would say.

James

JPL says they are 19 km away, so James is correct.

I bet that each one of those visible outcroppings is about the size of Burn's Cliff.

They will be bigger than Burns Cliff, remember they are 800 meters away, at least 75 feet high.

You can tell its bigger, a similar view of Endurance took only 3 pancam frames, Victoria from proberbly a little further away, takes 8 frames.

I disagree with a full circumnavigation, get into Victoria as soon as possible and examine the cliffs, she may not of course need to go all the way down to get at the base of a cliff. After that you can do whatever you jolly well please. smile.gif
