So what's the rational behind the slit on the small ball, for it seems that without it the ball would have slipped through?

Maybe a thermal expansion thing.

Odd they could not grab the ball, they must have done it dozens of times on Earth.

Which areas of Ultima Thule got the highest resolution coverage?

They did not release that information. They took one stripe of images as they did the closest flyby. Assuming it was a horizontal shot across the "center" some of Ultima ( the big lobe ), might be imaged, bearing in mind when the load was sent up they did not fully know the shape or spin rate.

Is the brown colour of lunar soil accurate? Is it dependent on lighting conditions on sun angle over horizon?

No, it's a low res simpler contex camera, the Moon is not red.

Phil, here's a landing video you can probably use to pinpoint the landing site.

That was the previous mission.

I haven't seen any explanation of how angular momentum is lost, allowing a co-rotating pair of objects to spiral together and touch.

They said some material would be ejected resulting in the slow down.

Hi,

I probably missed some information about SEIS deployment, but...enlight me please - how far from the spacecraft was it placed? 1 meter? Two? Thanks in adv for information.

Maciej

1.8m, about the max they could reach.

They just talked about craters, but I didn't quite catch whether he was saying that the low level of cratering should be expected or not....

I guess we'll find out when they get a better crater count.

I think he said the theoretical cratering rate there was generally pretty low, so to see few craters would not be unexpected.

Interesting tweet from Alan... perhaps they have resolved Ultima Thule?

https://twitter.com/alanstern/status/1079111629604831233

It seems to be something, but they are still too far out to resolve anything, except maybe if it's a binary or not ?
Also according to Emily's posted schedule no pics are due to be downloaded today.

I am hopeful that Jean-Yves Le Gall's twitter account will be a source of new Insight pictures over the next few weeks even if none are added to the JPL Raw Images page due to the shutdown. There seems to be no new pictures at the present time:

New pictures did come down.
