There is always a % risk of a bad landing.
I wonder what the worst case scenario was for instrument deploy ? 45 degrees/ 60 degrees ?

Are we seeing reflections in the plates of the large structure on the left? It might be handy having some mirrored surfaces to look around corners.

Confirmation the solar panels have deployed.
Also the panels are slightly bigger and stronger than Phoenix's were.

Anyone notice the indentations on the robotic arm cover plate, wonder if they were there before flight ?

...The lander seems to be slightly tilted. Might be, that one of the feet is standing on top of a small rock like the one in the foreground...

They said on the post landing conference the tilt was less than 2 degrees.

During the pre-landing briefings I did not hear anyone say an image might be sent back right after touchdown, did anyone else ?

The surface looks very smooth.

That was pretty quick, considering it's Sol 0.

<shrug> I could be wrong too about the direction. Think that what was said was that the terrain 11 (nautical?) miles (note the units!) NW of the original target point was potentially unsuitable so TCM-6 was gonna shift away from that.

The landing point before TCM 6 was in less suitable terrain, so it's been moved 11 miles SW to a better place with TCM 6.

One question I never heard was how accurate is the desired landing point to where they actually land, usually ?

There have been so many missions who depended on ODY for their relay! We often give it for granted but the way this mission has been managed even in spite of the ever decreasing budget is quite remarkable.

Paolo

Are you talking ODY's budget, cause I thought the over all NASA's budget had increased this year.

Nice to know. FYI, the GOES-16 mesoscale sectors have images for Hurricane Michael in one-minute timesteps. I suppose one can downscale the time, zooming into the eye to see time steps of just seconds.

There is some experimental GOES-17 imagery (not yet public) that has real images on a 6-second time scale.

GOES-16 "raw" image data is available on the AWS cloud if one want to get this type of data - perhaps you already are.

They can do 30 second updates if they use both Meso sectors on the same target.

Does anyone know what happens to MarCO-A & MarCO-B after they complete the communications relay of the InSight EDL data?

Is there any more science planned? Or do they simply head away from Mars basically following the cruise stage?

They are in the orbit of the upper stage, not the cruise stage.

Have they abandoned plans to climb Mount Sharp? Based on the original timeline from when the mission landed, they're already about 4 years behind.

That was never really the plan, there is not much scientific reason to go up there.
