There is still one thing I don't fully understand, how is the drilled core placed into the sample tubes ?
Is the tube inside the drill or is the sample core pushed into the tube ?
Thanks.

"The raw data is down and Ingenuity had a successful Flight #29 which puts it in a better communication position with the rover!
Despite the recent problems, this little guy just keeps on persevering! "

Beautiful work.

If I've ever seen a place where one should not walk around barefoot, this is it.

I was under the impression these rocks are very fragile, your feet would crush them.

Don't forget Perseverance's wheels have twice as many treads as Curiosity's wheels, so that could mean less slippage when traversing slopes ?

In the hindsight department, it might have been nice to have brush attachment on the deck that could be picked up by the grapple on the arm and used to brush off the panels. But there might be good reasons why that wouldn't have been feasible either.
John

We had years of brush talks with the MER rovers, basically the timeline of the panels is designed for the timeline of the primary mission.

The discussion of the route south starts at 28:30 of the video: Science route (zone) south
Here is a screen shot. I added the 1 mile long bar. The length of the red-marked zone was said to be a little more than a mile. Also stated was that the science campaign in this area, including sample collection, would last several hundred sols. So a year or more before the rover heads toward the delta.

That kind of implies a much longer mission is anticipated than 2 Earth years.

Not to rain on the parade, but it is easy to conceive of limits. While I predict many upcoming powerpoint presentations that will profess to indicate the feasibility of scaled-up Mars helicopters, and possibly even address the basics of disk loading and specific power, I expect that once you get into the details, the issues of aeroelasticity and motor heat rejection will show anything more than a factor of 2 or 3 more massive or longer-endurance than Ingenuity to be impractical.

The, I think lead engineer, said 25Kg was feasible and design studies have already started.

In the shadow picture, why the heck is the shadow of the body/solar panel and legs black, but the shadow of the rotor blades is a lighter tone? The blades don't appear to be translucent.

John

Because the blades are moving at 2500 rpm.

Wow for the shadow picture. I'm curious about the 'shutter' speed, and can't find a relevant answer.

Andy

30 frames per second for the helicopter nav cam.
