I always enjoy his updates. You get the sense that as each year passes they will get busier and busier.

QUOTE (kenny @ Aug 10 2011, 10:18 AM) *
And Cape York had almost no topography at all... we just drove right over it! The tone differences in the orbital photos we were speculating on gave a false impression of relief that did not exist. Quite a lesson in photo-interpretation.

Makes you wonder what we might see at Gale Crater....

They have already decided to risk climbing, they want to try find evidence of clays. If Oppy breaks a wheel, she breaks a wheel, hopefully right on top of the clays.....

Where are are going after Cape York ?

I've been confused for a week or two as I was expecting Cape York to be a big hill, it's like a gentle rise really.

I just realised today that that's Endeavour Crater in the distance. unsure.gif

First conclusion: the step up to CY is really tiny!

That's exactly what confused me.

It was a wrong assumption by me the thrusters would be running full tilt all the time.

I assume safe landing could be made with less than 100 % thrust, and any extra needed then would be available ?

I have few of questions about the desent stage thrusters.
Are all 8 used in the landing ?
Why are the thrusters in each pair pointing in different directions ?
What happens if the thrust is not enough ?

Thanks.

Also I read the thrusters run at 107 %, which seems an odd figure to me.

Full inline quote removed - Admin.

I am curious, apart from maybe changing the inflation pressure, what the purpose of that ?

The article states that the lowlevel part of the radar testing has been done, this was for high level to the start of low level, with differing I guess swing angles that might occur.

I don't think it really matters where Kepler looks, if it finds possible Earth like conditions then multily that by the barely unimaginable size of the Universe, and the chances of other life existing goes up.
