"New Horizons was still too far from Pluto (3.6 billion kilometers, or 2.2 billion miles) for LORRI to resolve any details on Pluto’s surface – that won’t happen until summer 2014, approximately one year before closest approach."

We saw the launch last night in real life from our location in Orange Park, FL. The Delta 2 looked like a large firework rocket at first. Then an orange light which noticeably accelerated. We have seen the Shuttle launch several times and also I think one of the Rovers.

Well they must have great faith that Oppy will be able to drive forever...to add all those extra Km to avoid the bigger dunes. I am sure Steve never mentioned this when they first decided to head for Endeavour.

From a BBC caption of a Full Moon...

"The moon will appear high in the night sky"

Don't full moons appear on the horizon, just after sunset ?............ huh.gif

BTW tonight the full moon will appear bigger as it is closer to the Earth.

What about the female explorer.... Alexandrine Tinne (1835-1869)

""But none rises higher in my estimation than the Dutch lady, Miss Tinne, who after the severest domestic afflictions, nobly persevered in the teeth of every difficulty." - Dr. Livingstone, explorer and missionary."

QUOTE (fredk @ Nov 14 2008, 04:23 PM) *
These are the first eastward-pointing pancam views in a while. I believe this is a piece of Endeavour poking over the horizon, perhaps our first view of our long-term destination since Victoria?

I noticed that too.
