So Steve WAS right after all! I always thought that a newer basin superimposed upon an older one was his argument all along.

Another WAC color set that was hiding in the raws, this one with less color fringing due to perspective shift:

That's really spectacular, Gordan. You make the rest of us amateurs look like amateurs!

Keep up the good work. wink.gif

Hmmm.... could it be that Steve was right about Claude having a double-rim along its eastern extent?

*groan* I should've checked the map first - of course it's Claude and not Joan.

Ian - what? Solid state power switch trips occur several times a year, each time safing the s/c. We don't always hear about them, they're mostly mentioned in Cassini weekly reports.

Gordan - I was referring to the article on the Cassini website that stated: "The last time Cassini was in safe mode was over four years ago."

Typical - the first safe mode event for four years had to occur just after the Iapetus flyby... mad.gif

I use Paint Shop Pro 8; it's cheap and fairly powerful, in addition to having a shallow learning curve.

Some interesting links from Chuck Wood's Lunar Picture of the Day website:

Finally, here's a great example of how radar imagery can complement visible-light pictures of the Moon:

Here's my collection of various NASA videos and animations, which I have collated from a variety of different sources:

Pioneer 11 Encounter with Saturn in 1979.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=82...59931&hl=en

Voyager 1 Flyby of Jupiter in 1979.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8...45219&hl=en

Voyager 1 Flyby of Saturn in 1980.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=54...08089&hl=en

Voyager 2 Encounter with Jupiter in 1979.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=18...95435&hl=en

Voyager 2 Flyby of Saturn in 1981.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=12...87981&hl=en

Voyager 2 Flyby of Uranus in 1986.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=17...72214&hl=en

Voyager 2 Encounter with Neptune in 1989.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8...44154&hl=en

Ice Volcanoes on Triton, as imaged by Voyager 2 in 1989.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2...09184&hl=en

Galileo Orbital Tour of Jupiter and its Moons.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8...43738&hl=en

I think the Jim Blinn animations are truly brilliant, despite the dated graphics. Modern computer visualisations (such as those for the Cassini mission) are prettier, but far less dynamic.

Phil's great stereo pair seems to show a massive crater at the top of the image. I wonder, is this the same feature that is prominent in the low-resolution Voyager picture?
