Steve,

Could your problems be caused by the fact that Iapteus isn't perfectly spherical? I imagine that might cause some significant distortions in your image reprojections.

Here's my version, consisting of 12 stacked images, plus a simple histogram stretch:

Attached Image

It seems like the brightness of the impact basin in the previous set of images was purely due to the phase angle, as opposed to a genuine intrinsic difference.

I'm not sure how useful this will be, but here's my attempt at combining the ISS and VIMS mosiacs of Titan:

That's marvellous Ted.

Speaking of Triton, have you considered recreating the view of an ancient Tritonian crater I mentioned in this thread:

With regards to the difficulties posed by the logistics of getting so many books signed in so many parts of the globe, I think I have a cunning plan that could prove to be a viable solution.

"What?" I hear you ask. "Is it as cunning as a fox who's just been appointed Professor of Cunning at Oxford University?"

Well, possibly.

How about Phil buys a pack of 'sticky labels', one of which he could sign every time someone here on UMSF wants a genuine Stooke signature in his or her copy of the atlas (all for a small fee, of course). Upon receipt of the signed label, they could stick it inside the book (or even on a body part of their own choosing).

This cunning scheme would save the ridiculous amount of money invested in sending such a hefty tome back and forth through the post.

Any thoughts, Phil? wink.gif

Holy moly - it's a MONSTER! blink.gif

Excellent report Emily (and great new portrait, if I may say so cool.gif ).

The Pluto rover looks interesting too - are there any tentative plans to send smaller vehicles of this sort to Mars en masse? They would be great for scouting missions; looking for suitable locations for a MSL class rover to explore in more detail.

Emily, I hope you don't mind, but I took your image and adjusted the R/G/B levels until the colours matched Bjorn's composite:

Attached Image

I'd also like to congratulate you on an excellent tutorial. The only possible addition I can think of at this time is to mention the alternative to the 'Difference' layer attribute that I use. Changing the top layer opacity to 50%, as well as converting it to a negative image, is the best way to accurately align two layers(in my opinion).

I have some of that footage Jason (from the 1989 BBC Horizon documentary on the Neptune encounter). Among those visible are Carolyn Porco, Ed Stone, Carl Sagan, Torrence Johnson, Brad Smith and many others too.

It's the real deal all right - a mosaic of 10 Voyager frames:

QUOTE
The image shows Uranus with its ring system and the 10 innermost satellites.
All but S/1986 U 10 were known at the time the image was taken, based on
Voyager images taken in January 1986. Arrows at the edge of the image point to
the 10 satellites. The other dots of light are background stars of the
constellation Sagittarius. (If you know enough astronomy to want to look this
up on a star chart, the bright star next to Juliet is Kaus Borealis, Lambda
Sagittarii.)
...

The new discovery image is a mosaic of 10 exposures, Karkoschka said. The
exposures of Uranus had shorter exposure times than the exposures of the
surrounding area containing the rings and satellites. Since Uranus is a million
times brighter than its satellites, Karkoschka retained the darker planet image
so the satellites would be visible.
...

The colors in the image are close to realistic, he added.

The following screenshots are taken from a UK TV documentary on the Neptune encounter. Candy Hansen cuts up a printout of a Voyager 2 image of Triton in an attempt to reconstruct an ancient crater that was subsequently destroyed by tectonic activity:

QUOTE (ugordan @ Jun 5 2007, 10:27 PM) *
Nice! Is the first image RGB or IR/G/UV?

Gordan.

It's just a plain ol' RGB composite. smile.gif

Also, is it just the viewing geometry, or does there appear to be significantly 'yellowy' areas both north and south of the band? They show-up quite nicely in Bjorn's enhanced image.

Here's my attempt at constructing a global colour view of Tethys, using the latest RAWs. The bluish band stands out quite nicely:

This is an enhanced version, which really brings out the difference in colour between the band and the surrounding terrain:
