Rybo, you can always send your name to Mars...

And here are photos of the microchip as it was being installed onto LRO:

Yes, and Norway has a high rate of international responses, as does, strangely enough, Iran of all places. Just submitted my name. This must be the umpteenth space exploration mission I've sent my name to, but sure what's the harm? laugh.gif

I'm just waiting for the day another outer planet flyby mission presents itself for me to submit my name on. I missed the New Horizons opportunity.. ohmy.gif biggrin.gif

Sigh.

I guess it's difficult to choose from such awesome names as Perception, Journey and Adventure. rolleyes.gif

The name for MSL should be announced any day now.

I don't recall anyone suggesting the Galileo probe should be called something else because Galileo was put on trial for advancing knowledge.

Galileo probably should've been named something else... Maybe then, its high-gain antenna would've fully deployed tongue.gif

Curiosity sounds like a good name...since it has 5 syllables like Opportunity. If you're superstitious like I am... biggrin.gif

It's still more than 2 years before the rover launches, so there's no deadline for submission yet. smile.gif

Glad to see LCROSS and LRO in Florida now. Hopefully, they'll make the April launch...not that being delayed 2 weeks to May 7 is a bummer smile.gif

Emily posted an interesting blog on Planetary.org regarding a proposed flyby of Neptune that could be done by 2027 if it launched by 2020. Called Argo, it would be the fourth New Frontiers mission if approved it in the next selection process, which is to take place in 2013.

November 1 has come and gone, but you can still submit your name on Kepler:

http://namesinspace.seti.org/

[You can just submit your first and last name; the other fields (country, state, message) are optional]

Just to make things more interesting for overall launch scheduling/coordination (like they need to be made more so rolleyes.gif ), I've been hearing vague things about some sort of newly-discovered problem with Deltas that might have a ripple effect on everybody. Anybody more in the know have any info?

LRO will be launched on an Atlas 5...which is built by Lockheed Martin.

Unless by everybody you mean United Launch Alliance itself, in general.

Fermi... Sounds like the last name of the lead singer of the music group, Black Eyed Peas (Fergie).

I'm assuming some of you are hip to pop culture as well tongue.gif

NASA TV showed this image of the Panorama. If that's the official, 'complete' version... Then I guess I don't have to worry about replacing the 8X10 I made from the Pan that James did. wink.gif

I dunno. I think they're getting greedy and trying to get to 2 million names tongue.gif

That, and if the launch DOES slip to February of next year, they'll probably extend the deadline a lot longer...like to, say, November (the deadline for the Kepler mission, which would also launch in Feb. of 2009)
