I bet that bird in the 6th pic down beat it out of there in a hurry

Wow, I'm checking out that last pic on the second page of the empty launch pad, and it seems like the USAF insignia and the flag got pretty roasted by the Atlas' thrust...

I was a member at its inception (#1817) but dropped off in '94 while going thru some unrelated issues.  Their work has been and continues to be very good for promoting interest in space exploration.  The "Planetfest" conventions during the Voyager flybys were some of most educational and enjoyable events I attended in the '80's.

I was a member from around '92 to '94... I re-joined The Planetary Society last night

QUOTE (Boxcarx @ Jan 19 2006, 03:01 PM)
Assuming that there are quite a few people working on the NH program, what do they do during the big gaps of no activity of the space craft?  Are they shared among other programs within NASA?  I can't imagine a job where I'm free to go for 7 or 8 years and then I have to come back!

I wonder when the New Horizons website will have that "Where's the spacecraft now?" page posted up. I like those charts

I think the protesters secretly wish for a launch failure so they could say "See, I told you so."

Don't forget the Boeing labor union that wanted the launch to be delayed because the 6 non-striking technicians working on the third stage were deemed "unqualified"...

NASA should feel quite vindicated today.

Maybe beacause if there is an accident, then the debris could fall below cloud cover and the plane would lose sight of where it fell...

I wonder why they don't use aircraft to track the Atlas V's ascent as well... Have the plane obviously fly above those pesky, friggin' clouds...

Range is 'no go' for launch at 1:30 p.m. because of clouds obscuring the optics for tracking the rocket at liftoff.

In that case ya'll best come back some time next week as the forcast is not too good out to Monday.............

I'm checking the 10-day weather forecast on Yahoo.com...and the only sunny day will be next Thursday...and that's kinda hittin' it too close to the Jupiter assist deadline

I'm looking outside my window right now...and it's nice and sunny--no clouds--here in Cali. If only the footage on NASA TV could look like that

EDIT: Crap... Much of the sky is covered by clouds from the footage I see

Well let's not discuss the power systems (e.g. California's net can't even absorb all the energy produced by the windmills of Tehachapi mountains)   mad.gif

Back to the topic as it seems that the decision whether a launch can be attempted tomorrow isn't yet taken (officially).   ohmy.gif

The announcement should be made around 4 PM, EST today

Oh, and I should be 36 if NH reaches Pluto by 2015...assuming nothing goes wrong the next time I go skydiving

I'm expecting New Horizons to launch on Thursday...according to the forecast on Yahoo.com
