Re my previous post 127, I've linked to a cropped 150% zoom I did of the two craters in question. The similarities in patterning are still puzzling to me. Thoughts anyone...?

Were these craters made at the same time by an impactng rubble pile object (similar densities and impact angles)? It would create a strange ejecta blanket.

Sol 920. That's 100m per week, one more purgatory, and 20 days of science stops.

But then I didn't win the Deep Impact - guess impact crater size - either. blink.gif

Darn. MaxSt already took sol 920. I'll go for sol 921. But I think sol 920 is it! tongue.gif

AIAA is offering free online access to Journal of Spacecraft and Rockets (Volume 45, Number 6, 2005). There is an interesting MER-related article "Mars Exploration Rover Transverse Impulse Rocket Cover Thermal Protection System Design Verification."

There are a few others, too, not related to MER.

I am amazed by the breadth of talents and knowledge of the posters to this board. Thank you for the link.

I mean "Trajectory Analysis And Staging Trades For Smaller Mars Ascent Vehicles" - Were going to get some mars rocks back here one way or another! biggrin.gif

Assuming the rover drivers are paranoid about crossing dunes

It's interesting that your drive path stops at the edge of the victoria ejecta blanket. I wonder how traversible it is?

Design lesson for future rovers: there should be some simple and reliable mechanism for unclutching a wheel once it is certain that it is inoperable and cannot be recovered. Some kind of pyro mechanism perhaps?

tty

In a future mission, how about just blowing off the whole wheel? Pyro wouldn't add much weight.
