Back to RORAIMA!
Curiosity has reached the outskirts of the crater field, after a westward drive of over 29m on sol 3892, and so has returned to the RORAIMA quadrangle.

Curiosity drove westward a little over 27m, on sol 3890. It now sits about 21m from the crater cluster, but I find it hard to discern the craters in the Mastcam images.

Here are some images of the site listed as prime (please see my previous post). I roughly superimposed part of the LROC image M1421908349L on Google Earth (Moon).

Several interesting data can be found in ISRO's Chandrayaan 3 details page.

For instance, the prime landing site is given as "4 km x 2.4 km [centered on, presumably] 69.367621 S, 32.348126 E"

A very short move on sol 3885, just 2.5m on a turn to the right.
The Mission Updates for sols 3882-3884 and 3885-3886 do not agree on a target name: "Skotari" or "Stokari"?
Perhaps we'll have to wait for the Notebook to settle it.

Attached Image

Note: My apologies for the misspelling above, it should have read "Skotani" or "Stokani". I will use Skotani because it is the name of a Greek village located in a mountainous area.

Looks like the Curiosity team... is curious about the crater cluster.
After the difficulties in climbing the Starboard Ridge, Curiosity drove back (west) almost 45m on sol 3880 to go see them.
Driving by the cluster is featured on MSAR 10 (route in blue) as well as on the very first notional route (in white).

KML file update to sol 3873. Includes the newest target names.
This is the 4th of July weekend, so although Curiosity may be busy there won't be any news for a while, I suspect.

On the second quarter of 2023 Curiosity drilled another hole (#38) and continued the route to Gediz Vallis.
Exiting the Marker Band Valley proved to quite challenging, promption route changes.

Here is a visualization of Curiosity's travels on the second quarter of 2023. In all images North is at the top.

The path for sols 3786 to 3874 (April 1st to June 30th, 2023):

The above in a wider context (since sol 2721, April 1st, 2020):

QUOTE (PaulH51 @ Jun 21 2023, 07:45 AM) *
Any hints out there on the theme for the next quad? smile.gif

No hints but Curiosity drove about 17m on sol 3865 and is already on the new quad. And Mission Updates has a name for the hard to climb ridge.
