I just came across this MSL update. Interesting to understand a bit more how the route's planning takes place. Here is a link to the text and a direct one to the video: Curiosity Rover Report: Rover Road Trip Fernando |

... at what elevation is yellow knife bay compared to the current rover position ... I think I can answer that bit. Using the Google Earth (Mars) elevation profile on the path I regularly put out, I find a difference of -1m to -2m between Yellowknife Bay and the Sol 0984 location. Fernando |

I think something is wrong there. We should be about 65 m east of the last stop. Definitely. As the end of drive images demonstrate. I'm waiting for the "Where is Curiosity?" page to refresh before plotting it. Fernando |

So I take a few days off and she moves 600 meters?! Well done! Seriously, I was away but another reason for the long interval between posts is that took me a much, much longer, and was harder than expected, to plot the drives since Sol 940. Update to Sol 967. The 10 KM mark was wrongly placed and was corrected. This implies the 9 KM must move as well. But where to? My search came up empty. It has to fall between sols 933 and 944, so the current location is a best guess. A few names were added. Fernando

Mark McCaughrean, Senior Scientific Adviser for Science and Robotic Exploration Consultant for ESA, gave a conference in Lisbon on January 29. Stressing these were ideas that are being talked about, he mentioned that towards the end of the mission a fly through the neck might be attempted "Star Wars" style, followed by a landing on the comet. But Rosetta would have to "land upside down", because of the communications' antenna position. The conference was given in English, but there are some brief comments in Portuguese. The video can be found here Rosetta: on the trail of the comet - Mark McCaughrean, Lisbon, January 29, 2015. The comments mentioned above can be located at 1h30m14s and, on the Q&A period, at 1h40m30s, 1h45m22s, and 1h48m18s. Fernando |

Here is an update (at last!) to Sol 896. I took blake's idea (thank you, blake) and extended it a bit. As usual, individual elements are switchable on or off. Pahrump Hills tracking did get confusing, and the large number of names does not help. Fernando

Images need to be taken with the landing site illuminated ... I took a good look at the images in the DLR Portal for Rosetta Mission's image gallery. In particular: image #66 and image #75 cover some of the area that was flown over but there is none that shows beyond the crater rim. Fernando |

I have been away then, coming back, I found myself very busy. I finally managed to get some free time and update the route map to Sol 799 (good location). I could not find the locations of several targets mentioned in the USGS Astrogeology News blog. I'll add them if and when a location becomes available. Fernando

Update to Sol 731, plus provisional update to Sol 733. Also added a simple Mars clock showing LMST at Gale site. It is implemented as a KML balloon (the only way I could make it work), which means it is OK for occasional consultation of the current time, rather than for continuous display. Edit: to display the clock select it from GE's side bar. Fernando
