I dont want to go to a publisher and look an idiot you see "Hello - I want to make a book" doesnt say much but a renown speaker and so forth - makes more sense For those who've not heard of it - I'm going in for the London heats of www.famelab.org Doug |

well - a book couldnt be finished until the rovers die really - i'd want to tell the full story BUT - I have a speaking engagement in London on April 23rd - and something a little more exciting I'm trying out for on April 14th. The former is just another feather in my cap ( Speaking at a BAA meeting is quite a big deal ) - and the later may give me some standing in the field of science and the media - which would give my 'pitch' to a publisher more clout Doug |

I think it may be that some of the etched terrain is actually quite tall - a few metres perhaps - and that will seriously effect visibility toward the crater. I think victoria will suddenly just appear - and we'll all go "OMFG" - but it'll be after Albert - sorry - Erebus, that we see it. Doug |

I'm not really asking a question really - just posing an issue ![]() Mars Pathfinder was about 2.2km from 'Big Crater' which was about 1.5km wide. Now - Victoria is only half that size - but it says something about local topography that we cant see it from where we are now - about 3-4km from it. Doug |

Ahh - thanks for the heads up. I might ask the PDS if they're going to put them on their FTP server. I've just emailed them to ask about the next MGS MOC release( due any day now I believe ) Get this - I PNG'ed Opportunity Sols 1-17 before filling a DVD Luckily I got from 18-40 with the second disk It's worth doing - I want this stuff backed up and get-able without going back online to get it, but wow - there's a LOT of it. I think Navcam and the other imagers will take up perhaps half as much space - maybe even less. It'll make a nice graphic demonstration of the volume of data they've sent back at my next talk - as I get out about 40 DVD's... "This is the uncompressed data volume sent back by the two rovers in their first 6 months. No - these are not CD's - these are DVD's doug |

I've just finished downloading all the data up to sol 180 ready for archive onto DVD 31.8 gig Once I've made PNG's out of that lot it'll be 45 gig probably. I'm going to break it down into 30-sol pieces for each rover with the PNG's pre-made. Anyone know if the calibrated Navcam and Hazcam data is available on an FTP server anywhere - I couldnt find an appropriate folder from the place directed to from the Workbook. Doug |

I just picked Albert - because Albert was Queen Victorias Husband. I also started refering to the dark area to the NW of 'Erebus' as 'The Albert Dock'. For those who have visited Liverpool - that'll make sense Doug |

With autostitch- often you have to do just the first two images - then auto-stitch those. Then add the next image - and run autostitch again. Then add another - and autostitch again Doug |

The latest directors update says were about 80m from Viking. Viking and Voyager would appear just like that at that range. Both appear to be falry fram-like from orbit. If you take into account that they are the right objects at the right range, and the director updates tell us where we are, then yes - those ARE viking and voyager. Doug |

QUOTE (Pando @ Mar 25 2005, 10:10 PM) QUOTE (djellison @ Mar 25 2005, 02:39 PM) OI - PANDO - CHANGE THE URL ON YER MAPS Doug Uh, sorry, my bad. Done, and updated. Also added the current odometer readout... and yes, a champion she is Updated Opportunity Route Map: Just a thought - did you do your style maps for eagle->end ? Would be cool to put together a full travel plan for at 1.5m/pixel for the whole - ignoring the stuff inside endurance as that's just too messy Doug |

I think they want to get to, or near to Viking for the weekend, at which point some IDD work and some major auto-nav downlinking can take place Doug |
