I had a ply with those images as well - to be honest you're right - there's not a lot in there, the auto-exposure treatment of the images thanks to the ammount of sky in the scene makes sure it's a bit dodgy.

Whats frustrating is that there are 2 new and recent images on the main page of the website so they clearly have all the data.

They're just stopped posting it. i can see why - end of primary mission - no more funding for it. Hell - there will be no more updates to Maestro either.

Still doesnt mean I like it - and if I were a US taxpayer - I'd be asking questions

With the weekend approaching it will probably be early next week before were likely to see anything new......... ohmy.gif

They've had 90 sols in which to perfect an automated system, and they havnt. That's very dissapointing

Hmmmm, JPL no longer seem to be posting RAW images mad.gif

There are 2 new pictures on the front of the JPL website that were taken recently though.

Nothing at the Exploratorium OR on the raw images pages at JPL.

Evidently, as the Primary missins are both over in 2 days time - the extra funding for extended missions doesnt cover the wages for the hour or so per day it would take someone to keep the raw image folders full with the images ' as soon as we get them on the ground' as promised by Squires 2 years ago.

Great job with the mosaic. It's an enticing exposure.
I imagine this is posing quite a dilemma for the folks at NASA. With the rover having a limited lifespan, how long do you tarry here when Endurance crater is clearly the bigger prize.

A sol or 3 I'd say. Mini TES it, a few full-spectral pancam frames, perhaps a rat and a Moss + APXS on something near the edge, but I wouldnt roll into it, and seing as it's 2 sols drive to Endurance - if it flags up something interesting on reflection, it's hardly a nightmare to drive back

Yeah - Endurance is wider than a full Navcam frame now - so it will take 3 pancam frames to image it in total ohmy.gif

As I've moaned in the past - navcam pans just dont tend to work somehow - I think it's the wide field of view ( 45 degrees ) that they have

Anyhoo - for what it's worth

For reference - I believe Fram is approx 2/3rds the way to Endurance, but above the 'shortest route' from Eagle to Endurance

Well - using the genius MER Parallax Calculator - on the Sol 81 images ( before the uber-drive I think )

oops - it doesnt like it - possibly it's too far away ohmy.gif

anyhoo - the crater is what, 185 metres across north-to-south, and takes up around 1000 pixels of pancam width - yet is about 33 pixels high from the highest point to the lowest point we can see - so that would give us about 6 - 7 metres of height. But - there is probably about as much that we cant see - lets say about 12 metres of depth in total to the edge of the crater - but only 6 or 7 as that 'cliff' we can see on the far side.

Wow, Cassioli, You've provided more info on Opportunity's location in one post, than NASA has provided since we arrived.

Does anyone have similar info on Spirit or more detailed shots of Opportunity's travels? Particularly showing the past few days travels for Spirit.

Yeah - JPL have maps on their site.

It's the same crevice. It arrived after a 100m drive, and has driven about 50 metres along the side of it.

If I remember correctly - using the wrist joint of the IDD -it's possible to place the RAT right by that thing - and by powering up the rat when it's by it - you can clean the rat, and thus the rat magnets off.

An interesting feature - but probably very similar to the outcrop inside Eagle

The cool thing is that opportunity has driven from one target seen on orbit - to another - like Spirit has.

the drive to Endurance doesnt seem that far when you can pull 150 metres in 48 hours.

So where are the post-crush shots of Bounce?

No huge deal--just interesting how the RealTime™ public data releases flow in non-random ways.

Indeedey. Realtime™ is very odd. I was proven wrong with the imagery overlooking Bonneville - and to be honest, some imagery does come down the pipe at very VERY strange times. I think much of the monster-trucking info will have been voltages and rocker angles more than imagery though

There was a SUPERB dramatization called 'Shackleton' here in the UK on Channel 4. I bought it on DVD, a SUPERB telling of an amazing turn of events.

Now that IS analagous to meridiani - seen lots of people say "isnt this just like..." - when really - it isnt - but your site actually is - interesting stuff

What sort of time-scale does one need the water to be around for, for concretions such as those to form? A few thousand years, hundreds of thousands? Longer?

however im still wondering what happened to the true high resolution images, the camera has a "super resolution channel" at about 2M per pixel

Indeed - where ARE the high res images ohmy.gif not a single one yet - and its been on orbit for 3 months
