Three pancam frames, just the L2 here, not great quality but not bad either.

New technique for the Anaglyph as well, similar to that used on the MEX anaglyphs, which I really liked!

They've not released anything yet - and I'm really looking forward to seing how it compares to MOC. to be honest, with the new 50cm technique on MOC, I doubt MEX will beat it

Yup - front hazcam indeed - does look like a very small crater doesnt it.

Means they covered a LOT of ground during Sol 39 to get there - the Front hazcam raw images are slowly coming in , but there's certainly 20+ metres of driving to get from where they were, to where that little ring of rocks is - if I've found it in earlier pancam imagery

http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/gallery/all...99P1663R0M1.JPG Towards the right of the image.

There's a turn in place near it from those front hazcam images, so an interesting drive.

Well - filenames can just re redone, but I've put some black text on this one with the forum URL in it, and there was text on the other colour one.

I'm thinking about making this forum visible to registered members only biggrin.gif

No - it seems they understand it very well, it's just not something they expected to happen.

QUOTE (jmknapp @ Feb 11 2004, 04:20 PM)
This is high noon--check the sundial.

Oh - I know that - I was just saying that a blue coloured sun on mars isnt a new idea.

BUT - i do think you're jumping to conclusions. as we've found with many many sets of images on this thing - we dont really have any clue of the real colours we're actually seing - and you have to account for things like the huge white pillar supporting pancam and navcam a few ft from the sundial that will be casting light onto the dial etc etc.

BTW, what software do you use for this stitching

PTGui and Panotools

http://www.ptgui.com/

http://www.ptgui.com/examples.html is a good demo of how to go about things

I'm struggling to define the parameters for the pancam and navcam though - never quite right.

SOL 035

Supposed drive from Adirondack, but accidentally un-corrected 'do not drive' flag from the safe mode caused it to not drive anywhere. Nice time lapse of the rover's shadow moving all the same. tachometer 5.9m

Best colours I've seen yet of the lander - I think it'll be nice when the whole thing is in one frame - possibly in 2 sols time.

Ahh yeah - the flag shot is there. There's a lot more of that first Spirit drive though - about 4, 5 frames.

There's a lot of missing imagery - I just dont understand why it's not there! - It's so random!

(I posted this to the Plan.Sci. Yahoo group - but thought it apt to post it here as well - to field some opinions)

Pre-landing, we had a promise from the panel of a press conf. that
images taken by the rover would be put on the web "as soon as we get them"

Early on in the Spirit mission, there was a delay of about 4, 5 days
before they started doing it properly

Now - however, a worrying pattern is emerging and one that is sure to
fuel the conspiracy theorists appetite for anything untoward.

Consider the nice colour image of the spirit lander structure. In the
raw imagery folder, we have the pancam images of this image set in L2
only - and none for L5 and L6 (which have been taken, have been sent
down, and been used to make the colour image). Why are they not up in
the raw images folder?

The front hazcam images that made the animated gif of the traverse
from the immediate egress position on Spirit, toward Adirondack (
about 4, 5 Front hazcam images in all) - never posted in raw images (
I find the 'linearized' hazcam images are TERRIBLE to look at and
would much rather look at the raw imagery )

NONE of the pancam images used to make the posed stars-and-stripes
image of the IDD on Sol 18 (or there abouts) on Spirit.

And now - none of the spectacular images of the backshell and 'chute.

It's painfully clear that JPL/Cornell are with-holding raw images and
'saving them up' for PR opportunities.

As the frequency of press confs. has dropped from one a day, to two a
week (and lord knows at what time, 9am, 10am, they never do make their
mind up) - surely it's time that this raw imagery gets pumped out onto
the web a) in it's entirety, and cool.gif in a timely fashion.

That - or issue a retraction of the promise to push all images onto
the web as recieved, and remove the "All 2,147 Raw Images" message
(or whatever it may become)

I only wish I'd paid the taxes to fund these missions so I had proper grounds to moan and grumble about it!!

I'll try and keep this file updated as and when the mission progresses and front hazcam images. I chose quicktime as it's one of the most widely accesable formats, and I REALLY like the ability to shuttle along the time line back and forth.

Unfortuantely, we've not had many of the hazcam images uploaded to the raw folder - I'll attempt to extract them from large anim gifs.

Again - awesome stuff - that possible backshell in the Navcam imagery WAS the backshell, pancam has nailed it since.

Might be usefull to make a set of graphs - that show, for a particular camera, the size of a 1cm, 10cm, 50cm, 1m and 5m objects as a function of distance
