You intentionally target missions away from Mars so the upper stage has a tiny chance of - over 50 years - hitting the planet. You then use TCM 1 to tidy that up and put the spacecraft on a trajectory to intercept the planet. Upper stages are just not cleared for planetary protection.

It has a hangar. The footage released of thermal testing shows the cover in place. https://vimeo.com/381357280 ( 11 minutes in )

Hangar gets dropped. Rover drives on leaving it behind. Helicopter gets deployed.

You’ve done a great job getting the stretched feel out of those Navcams! Bravo!

It was a lot of fun planning that movie - we’ve been thinking about it since November. It really shows how cunning the arm motion is to rotate MAHLI around is fixed space to get such a perfect stitch of the selfie.

Just a regular solar filter sunset tau - that's the actual solar disk setting behind the rim of gale crater.

Yup - this actual arm was destined to deploy Marie Curie on the surface at Meridiani Planum before the '01 lander was cancelled.

So - I went thru every pan number there is for the rover, opened the label file for the first image listed and pulled out the start time, lat and long, and the X, Y, Z from the lander.

While other data sets do have some points at Pan numbers not listed below....they do not have the Lander frame X,Y,Z data
Zipped up XLSX attached, as well as a crude X vs Y scatter plot.

I've also added a few more panoramas to the gallery including this one of Pan 0060 - probably the best of the 'gel' crater - https://dougellison.smugmug.com/Change-4-Yutu-2/i-ptMhv5d/A

Agisoft was able to extract a good model - https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/change-4-yu...f5679e069263852

I don't see DEMs in the release. I've tried some photogrammetry with the images with very very mixed results

Is there a gap in the panorama numbers that would be a helpful panorama, Phil?

Did a lot of processing last night - and tweeted out a thread on how to process the images as well

https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/12133264...shed=1578189033

This 6 frame mosaic from site 48 is probably my favorite.

So this mosaic from July 29th 2019 is maybe the glass?

https://dougellison.smugmug.com/Change-4-Yutu-2/i-Dsn3GTd/A

I can see why it got their attention, but oh boy was that a case of lost in translation.

WOAH....this is the first thing I could download and generate....just the first 6 images from the rover panoramic camera data.

Heads up - download the label AND the product.... and then open the label using the PDS4 viewer here : http://sbndev.astro.umd.edu/wiki/PDS4_Viewer

Straight up stitch, and debayered stitch attached.

(I'm dumping stuff here as I process it : https://dougellison.smugmug.com/Change-4-Yutu-2/i-SsB4MDr )
