What's the point in talking about flying 'n' anything, when at this stage, we are uncertain about flying one? We need MSL to go up, succeed and prove itself before discussing build to print. |

How about just the lat and long values in the middle of the two lat and long values of the rovers. Doug |

It doesn't even need to be random to avoid this recent problem. It's 'Mars is known as the what coloured planet (lower case)?'. That just stops the automated spamming. Manual spammers may well still get through - but I've not had more than a handful of spammers in the last year that I've had to pick up at the approval stage |

I'd suggest a great IT forum like hardocp.com or similar..... but fwiw, I think your best bet is to get it the heck out of the machine and access it via a SATA enclosure or similar, to get the stuff of it. |

Yes - they've been observed from orbit, and now from the ground. They're caused by relative heat - not just heat per-se. |

. I suspect through economy of scale, we could have sent six MER clones to Mars for the money expended on MSL. And not one of them with the instrumentation of MSL. And given that they struggled to find safe, scientifically compelling landing sites for two MER's - were are you sending the next six? What, realistically, could we learn with $1.whatever billion dollars of MER more than we have already. The MER design was the best we had for an '04 launch - it's done it's job. Time to move on. And seriously - if this debate comes up AGAIN - I'm going to start deleting posts. |

I remember reading that he was out scouting for potential venues for running Spirit of America, Craig Breedlove's last Land Speed Record attempt car. |

I actually said outloud when reading that entry "Bloody hell!' "What?" Says Helen "A spacecraft 4 months older than me that they've not spoken to for 10 years just started working!" Remarkable. |

All we really needed was a subtle tweak to sort out this current torrent - not a single spam registration so far, whereas we would have had 40 in a similar period a day ago. All registrations go thru a manual approval process anyway. |

Yeah - If I'd gone mad and ordered a 3008 instead, I'd have a working monitor now. AND - a 3008 primary, with a 2407 in portrait as a secondary monitor - ahhh - how beautiful it would be. |

Yes - an extensive campaign is planned for Dawn at the mars flyby http://cosis.net/abstracts/EPSC2008/00442/...8-A-00442-1.pdf One extra detail I discovered at Europlanet is a colour movie of a full mars day on the departure leg. Doug |

To post links to porn, scams, and in this particular high intensity glut of spamming, links to the very software they use to do the spamming. |

And when the person doesn't know? I've added a custom field which should halt the automated spamming. It's a very VERY simple question. Invision Board 3 will include an updated version of CAPTCHA, which is a bit more bot resistant - but a simple think like the custom field will actually defeat everything but the very persistent manually registering spammers. |

A custom field for registration (something as simple as "Which red planet is fourth from the sun" ) is on the cards, but I'd rather see if the invision team come up with something a little less dumb than that. |

It's called CAPTCHA, and we already have it in place. This recent bout is actually using people. |

Well - Navcam is a 45 deg FOV, and they're 20cm apart (pancam is 30). So - it's a triangle about 20cm across, and projecting 10 cm forward. |
