With three posts to your name, you're officially obliged to have the words "Newbie" painted onto your forehead smile.gif

I will be wearing a small, special edition UMSF badge with yellow, not blue, on the logo smile.gif

The 4 subframes of 6 month old VEX images were nice...but truthfully, I had to double check the date to make sure it wasn't ESA doing what Ted thought of smile.gif

There was an old being called Mankind
Who walked the moon in sixty nine
Now fourty years later
The task is much greater
But the military budget's just fine.

I though I'd try and do a visualisation of the data in 3D - so I took the visible band and projected the two orbits worth onto two concentric dognuts around a sphere...obviously this isn't really accurate as spacecraft don't to 360 degrees then hop 15 degrees to one side, but it gives some idea of where the data comes from, all be it exagerated vertically.

Humphrey was a near face-on ratting, as was, I THINK.... Upper Dells or Guadaloupe. (or one of the other Eagle outcrop targets )

Major major kudos to Alan, John and Space Enthusiast Richard Hendricks...don't know if I should be, but I'm sort of proud of that image.

I've given Space Enthusiast Richard Hendricks a new forum title smile.gif

That would be best - I think it's fair to say that we don't have enough numbers with enough confidence to go for a bulk booking ( minimum of which is likely to he 10+)

It's not that easy - a re-entry might be within a 5 hour window on any one of 3 orbits at any place along a 5000 mile track.

Yes - the plan is that anyone who's going should make sure they're going to the PM session - so we can all meet up, and watch RM together and heckle Jim afterwards smile.gif

Anyone who's going early enough and wants to do the first session as well - all the better - but it makes sense to pick one and go "we'll all do THAT one" - so that we're all on the same page, at the same time.

No - that's what I was thinking of, but I didn't have a 100% nod from Jim about the times involved - I knew he was coming, but didn't want to say anything until I had had confirmation about times, prices etc....

That's what we now have smile.gif

Might I suggest the afternoon session for everyone - I might do both - but the PM session would be late enough for people who have to travel to get there in time.

So yeah - lets all go to see Roving Mars..Jim'll be there smile.gif

Why not do it as a daily 2 min, or weekly 10 min video podcast.

Knowing the realities of video editing etc - the research, writing, recording, re-recording, editing and uploading of 2 mins - would take an hour, easily. If I had a spare hour - it wouldn't be my best way of spending it.

I'd make it. Just need
  1. Money.
  2. A TV station to air it.
  3. Money

I've found the Ciclops website to be at best slow, and usually unuseably slow almost all the time.

Exactly the same here, without fail.

what Emily said wink.gif

I've only just discovered that....I'm thinking it might be a better way to do home-grown L257 to true-ish-colour conversions for MER data than channel mixer..hmmm....

The next flight is US gov't, the flight after that is a Malaysian company - but the word 'client' or 'customer' is probably a better one to use than 'company'.

I'm going to try a little experiment on this - icing sugar and a flat surface...then tap the surface for a while ( like driving over rough terrain ) - see what happens smile.gif

OK - cocoa powder dusted onto a piece of carbon fibre. Then - all I did - was shake the thing for a few seconds - not much - just a little shake for a few seconds, perhaps 5mm amplitude, 5hz for 2 seconds....and I get 'clumping' of sorts.

That dial is on the edge of an array that is going to bounce and wobble a little bit as the vehicle drives - I can well imagine the same thing happening on the dial.

I was working on a fairly low res model of MER - but got sidetracked. It's something I could/should have another bash at. There are a few on turbosquid, but none of them are particularly accurate to be honest.
