QUOTE (ljk4-1 @ Jul 25 2006, 03:37 PM) *
what was its quality, exactly?

Well - I liked the Honda advert in the middle of it. The one with the choir and the Civic.

The documentary itself was fairly shoddy to be honest - making massive death defying mountains out of barely a molehill

The largest body in the top right actually has some channels around its periphery - within the confines of what one might call the 'lake' but between that edge and the darkest part of the lake in the middle - you can just see them

Almost certainly just crap processing of the JPG's before going on line. Jason will be able to give us more details ( maybe ) but they're likely to be able to pull something out of that lot.

If I had the cash.....I'd do it. It's the single biggest 'wow' factor of current spaceflight - just look at some of the images the guys take on EVA while doing ISS construction - it is, in the true sense of the word - awesome.

(PS - when mean if I had the cash, this is after the UMSF cubesat and Cosmos 2 gets funded etc wink.gif )

It depends - are there any EO missions being cancelled?

Are Aqua, Aura, Terra, and A-Train members being pulled out of service?

We are speaking just a few months after two valuable new members of the family were launched.

There's a lot of EO hardware up at the moment - changing a worthless mission statement doesn't change that.

As anyone who's stitched MI's will testify - ones where there's a lot of depth ( i.e. a little cobble sat on the surface ) and near impossible to stitch...but I had a go. Not found it on the PC imagery yet, need the FH stuff to come down later.

Mission statements are written by middle and senior management with nothing better to do. They are worse than useless, they're actually damaging to company moral because they are such a joke. Some of the genuine MS's I've seen mentioned by Scott Adams in some of his books just defy belief.

Wow - only 1755 local - so that's pretty early downlink.

I think they've just driven up to some of the dark pile for a weekend IDD workout.

I too missed the whole Apollo experience ( by 3 years more than Emily ) - but I must admit - I was listening to the Planetary Radio show from 3 or so weeks ago when Matt was talking to the guys up at the Glacier via Sat Phone, and I thought "OK - so there's no 10 minutes delay....but that's what people might sound like when they're walking around on Mars"

Footprints in our wheeltracks....one day...and I have no doubt that the moment will reduce me to floods of tears.

Whilst I don't think I can go with your suggests of a mini fault (given your little arrows) - it's possible that the fracture runs under the dune, and as the dune built on top of it, some part of the rock subsided a little, causing the dune to have that small sag that you outline.

There were motors to open the petals of the landers, and the solar arrays. The ones for the petals were used multiple times, to try and shuffle airbags around with Spirit, and to make the egress a little easier for Opportunity.

The solar array motors, I'm not sure. I wouldn't want to use them to 'shake' dust off...the potential for damage is huge. They may even be totally broken, or unuseable at the moment.

BUT

If I could guarentee them working the other way in a few months time (which is an impossible thing) , I might be tempted to drive solar array motors just 10 degrees or so if the geometry means it would help the power issue.

The front wheel deployment 'clicked' into place iirc, and so couldn't be 'un' driven as I understand it.

It may not seem like enough - but you can see for yourself in the images people have done, it clearly IS enough smile.gif The thing is on a slope as it is, so it's not suprising.

That's Beagle all right - but we're still some distance from it. Pancam has quite a 'zoom' to it smile.gif

Not only a great drive, but access to the dark lump, and good driving straight to Beagle if required.

It might make sense if you could have an intelligent charging system using the solar arrays.

A 30 minute drive to work...

The car sits in the carpark for 6hrs+..at the best time of the day for charging...and then 30 minute drive home.

Allowing for inefficiency in the system - if you could have an array that chucked out power at say, 1/6th of that during driving, you could drive to work - park up, and then when you were ready to leave, your car would already be fully charged again.
