QUOTE (akuo @ Jan 7 2006, 02:21 AM)
This sort of task is better achieved by a seperate downloader than trying to put everything and the kitchen sink into MMB.

Wget is a powerful commandline web downloading tool. Slinted gave me a website with directory access to the PDS releases: http://pdsimg.jpl.nasa.gov/

By using wget command flags it is possible to select the directories and file name patterns that we want to download. Eg.
CODE
wget -r -np -A "*rsd*.img" -I "*sol*","*rdr*" http://pdsimg.jpl.nasa.gov/Atlas/MER/mer1ho_0xxx/data/

This command will get all the .img files that contain the string "rsd" in the filename from directories that contain "sol" or "rdr" in the directory names. You should end up with all hazcam RSD .img's for Spirit for all the sols released so far.

warning: be careful with wget command line options, you may end up downloading the entire internet with too unrestrictive options.
*

Akuo - this is a work of GENIUS - I set it going last night and it was still going thismorning downloading the right files all night. Could you walk me thru that command line piece by peice to explain which bits do which bits - and fill me in on a few other details. I set up a .bat that just runs that like, if I run it again, will it start downloading the same files, or will it ignore files already downloaded and simply get ones it doesnt have? OR...can one specify a range of sols?

Oo - wget is very very clever.

There are a few programs that pretend to download websites, but just command line, bish bash bosh, job's a goodun with that ohmy.gif

And 1.4.2 fixes the graphics problem I had. It's now very very smooth and totally odd-black-shape-free smile.gif

I think that might have been a moment of having 'the map upside down' as it were - left and right, east and west confused when heading south

In honour of this - I've added a new member ranking - 'Senior Member' - 1000 posts or more - and it gets 4 pips under your name for it - I'm going to redistribute the others to more sensible names and levels.

QUOTE (Bill Harris @ Jan 8 2006, 12:51 PM)
You sit at your computer: the glow on your desk does not look bluish.  Look around the room.  It does not have the brownish tint of tungsten lighting.  Go into the kitchen.  You don't perceive the greenish fluorescent lamp hues.  Go outside in late afternoon; you won't notice the warmish tones of the afternoon lighting.

Actually, personally, I do notice. You being to 'ignore' it after a while - but on first look, one does notice these differences. When you put sunglasses on, things are tinted that colour. At no point when I wear them does that tint 'vanish'. The view remains the same. It doesnt fade to be neutral after a while. Perhaps it's different between people. Who knows.

But would you see white as white?

there's a white sheet of paper on my desk, that lit by a little halogen bulb, looks fairly white.

If I lit it with a beige lamp, it'd look beige. If I lit it with a green lamp, it would look green. Outside now the street is lit with Sodium lamps - if I go out there, white cars will look kind of yellowey, they'd look a bit bluish if it were mercury lamps etc.

Well - it's a good point. There's a ppt by SS somewhere post-FIDO-field test about how/why to do penultimate's - I'll try and dig it up

(Found it at http://wufs.wustl.edu/fido/tests/aug02/an/...ng/training.htm

http://wufs.wustl.edu/fido/tests/aug02/an/..._Operations.ppt )

QUOTE (Steve in that PPT)
Acquire Hazcam images at the end and ~1 meter before the end of every traverse.  This means you will always have images of the workspace volume in case you decide you want to analyze a target that ends up right in front of you.

The Fido field tests were where they learnt how to do 'MER'. The methods, roles, schedules. It makes excellent reading.

I guess, if they are sure of no IDD work the following Sol, then a penultimate is just mbits, whrs, and an extra few entries in the master sequence that they just dont need. However, if there's a chance that they may defer the following drive, then a Penultimate is put in to allow IDD work if necessary.

This is an oooooold thread - but the one I visit probably more often than any other smile.gif

Bjorn - did you ever do the maths for Opportunity? Does it differ from Spirit at all - and if so, any idea why? Same cameras, same filters, I'd have thought the maths would be the same - but it might be slighlty different

For those wondering how to do these processes using photoshop, I can do a tutorial and/or some photoshop actions if you'd like me to.

Looks like today WAS a proper drive day though - skirting left, east of that dune field.

716 has the look and feel of a drive, but no 'penultimate' FHAZ. Perhaps it's just a turn in place. 717 is a driving sol.

No - there's a 'ripping' to the stereo interpolation there - that's not real features. - some go straight thru El Dorado, and we KNOW what that's like.

Just because it looked a certain colour in the ATLO process or in the Mars Yard doesnt mean it should look the same on mars smile.gif

Unless, of course, Mars is lit by an array of large sodium light bulbs etc.

A short study should be made to see if it can be launched and operated under a small budget from, say, a Falcon I or as a secondary payload on a larger vehicle.

If it can be launched and operated for say, $25m - then I think it would make sense to fly it and use it. If it would be mroe than that, then probably not.

There's lots of them, and some have different speckles with different filters

Is it an internal calibration? Or Calibration using the Sun or something like that?

There's a Monty Python sketch where four men from the UK county of Yorkshire compare their earlier lives....

http://www.phespirit.info/montypython/four_yorkshiremen.htm

I've got a DVD of it being performed for a recent charity gig by Eddie Izzard, Harry Enfield, Vic Reeves and Alan Rickman - it HURTS to watch it I laugh so much smile.gif

I'm talking about following a route a bit like the attached image - skirting along the side of the humps to the right, and avoiding the softer terrain to the left - using the terrain that transitions between slope and dune as a route of good driving.

Well - we'll need monitors. Big Monitors. Lots of very big monitors.
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/product...ategory_id=4009

Specifically Eight across, and 25 down.

That - or about 30 Imax screens - which ever fits in your office really.

Just a though - I know you've essentially 'retired' from development of MMB, but there is one tool that I need in the world of 'MER' that I dont have....

A means to download all the RAD .img's of Hazcam and Navcam.

The Pancam imagery you can download in a big folder off an FTP server, but Hazcam and Navcam - you cant. I'm not sure how hard it would be to do - but my GOD it would be usefull. I dont know really if it's even something that SHOULD be in MMB - but a little standalone tool all of it's own - a few drop down boxes and then it would run off and download rad img's for hours on end ( i.e. Sols 25 to 87, all left hazcam RAD img's" or whatever. It would be superb.
