The same as MER

You can tell, if they do something with just L456, it's a Kodak Moment. But L257 is normal smile.gif

iirc Genesis used lunar flybys to line up for re-entry, and Contour used them I believe. Stereo will use them to send the two spacecraft in opposite directions as well.

I've looked thru all those similarly sized FHAZ's and not seen signs of movement to be honest.

I remember seing the UHF mast for MSL being on top of the equiv. of the pancam mast, but recent drawings I've seen dont have that anymore.

Some of the other passes show fairly long blackouts - perhaps HGA getting in the way etc.

I like little interesting data sets like this - they're wonderfull to look at.

These ones cover the off-baseline frequency of Odyssey during a UHF pass ( from a baseline of 400Mhz ) - and if data is good or not (0 - good data..no, I dont know why either)

They were used to help locate the rovers early on - but I think they also show a good profile of what a UHF pass is typically like. You can see the data drop out twice, one presumes as the Pancam Mast, and the LGA obstructed the line of sight from UHF mast to Odyssey - and again right towards the end briefly, perhaps because of HGA.

Interesting little graph anyway.

Am I the only one who finds the route around Endurance a little confusing - I still cant pick out Ellesmere, Wopmay etc from overhead views, it's quite confusing.

Come '11, there will be MRO (almost certainly), MEX (almost certainly), MO (probably) and potentially another orbiter at Mars. Relay capacity isnt going to be a problem imho.

I agree though - DTE tones during EDL are VITAL.

The place is hosted in the US ( www.imhosted.com ) - but I have no idea what that means for tax. I'm a Brit - the only sign I see is that two big chunks of salary never make it to my bank account, and go to Mr N.I.Contribution and Mr I.Tax smile.gif

You're making the assumption that the rover is in a fit state to drive - with the IDD not properly parked, and not in a contingency deployed position, any driving would risk damaging the IDD irreperably.

The same thing happened at Purgatory. Cries of "get moving". When actually - they took the right course of action...do no harm.

These anaologies of earth based geology dont really suit the situation.

Perhaps they could just set off, and then in 150 sols time, half way to Victoria, get stuck with a mechanical failure in the middle of no-mans-land with nothing to look at but dunes.

Perhaps they could set off, then driving over some rock, the idd snaps off because they didnt park it properly.

Perhaps they could stay where they are till they understand the IDD situation fully, do whatever needs to be done, take the time that needs to be taken to understand, investigate and if possible, fix the situation - and then do the science here where we know there are some interesting features and THEN set off to Victoria.

I dont believe time is the limiting factor for rover lifespan, I think usage is. The rover will either manage to cover another 4 km, or it wont. I dont think being parked here for a few weeks will change that in any way.

Flattering though it is - I dont want this to turn into a forum-v-forum match ohmy.gif

The MK forum serves it's purpose, and is a home for a certain type of discussion. I'm actually glad it exists.

Tomorrow will be 3 weeks since Opportunity stopped… IDD arm isn’t working but why aren’t they use what still works : WHEELS…

I've already said - until they've fully understood the IDD's health and status - it would be a bad idea to drive, they could do more damage.

The very fact it IS so open implies, IMHO that eventually, one day k00ks will come rampaging in.

They have. Twice. And their accounts were deleted, the IP addresses banned, both time within the space of 24 hours.

Trust me - as long as I am in charge of this place - it will NOT get kookie. It's lost some of the magic it had a year ago, but it's still a good place, and I will not see it ruined.

Actually - to say "I know something but cant say" is a bit, well, in the UK we'd call it 'Bad sport'. If you know something but cant say - then DON'T say so - and when you CAN say...DO. Otherwise it just smacks of "ner ner ne nerrrr nere - I know something you dont know"

Yeah - the 'front' page is an odd thing - I figure that it's quite usefull, but most people just want to get to the good stuff and would bookmark the forums anyway. I THINK i'd have to 'move' the whole of the forums to umsf.com/forum and then the front page would work properly - but if I was going to do that, I'd want to have something better as the front page.

I dont want to shamelessly pimp the whole paypal thing all the time anyway - it would get annoying. Including hosting and forum software, donations have matched the running costs almost exactly so far.

Many of you may remember me as "the high school kid" who created the website to try and keep NASA on course with a mission to Pluto.

I dont think it's an exageration to say that this mission quite probably wouldnt have happened without your website. I remember it well - and it doesnt seem that long ago really does it ohmy.gif

Was it you who did the '01 lander website as well? Didnt quite save it then - but at least it flys in '07. Only Marie Curie left, and imho that should be put into a museum with a good perspex cover so you can get really close, but it cant get damaged smile.gif

Have you tried massaging the dead pixel.....dont laugh, give it a fairly firm rub and it may go - the one on the cheap seconardy 15" tft I have at work vanished when I did it. Occasionally it comes back - but most of the time it's gone.

I've seen that image all over the place - it's certainly not from the should-have-that-pdf-cad-document. No problems from my end.
