QUOTE (dvandorn @ Sep 24 2005, 04:02 PM)
There is an official Viking Imaging Team portrait out there somewhere, taken with one of the Viking cameras.  At least one person appears in the picture three times.  Several others appear in it twice.

I've seen a larger version, and I think that actually, the guy who's on the bottom row - is on the image about 6 times

After SD passes buy for delivery, what's next for this probe? Any more encounters?

I've read that it's basically going to be pretty much out of fuel, the camera's not too great, so it'll probably get switched off.

Wonder if they'll do any imaging?

As a heads up to Bjorn - img2png doesnt like Stardust imagery - it just goes straight to a buffer overrun ohmy.gif

the x4 is my favorite part. It's 120 degrees across - but taller than most mosaics which are only x3

Just re-processed.

Took the avi - output as sequential stills - photoshop action to crop, enlarge 400% and unsharp mask, then stacked the results - S.M. much more obvious now smile.gif

I'm giving another talk - this one is at quite short notice...

It's at Stratford Upon Avon, http://www.astro.org.uk/intro/index.html - next Tuesday evening at 7.30pm - they've had their scheduled speaker cancel and I've been drafted in.

Not sure on guest-policy, but if anyone can make it I'm sure they wouldnt mind!

At some point - i'll take a picture of my telescope doing it's thing with Mars - it defines the phrase Heath Robinson.

Anway - using my Powershot S2IS yesterday...

then my very bad, un-collamated, wobbly, dented, occasionally rusty, dusty 4" reflector, on a dodgy tripod with no fine controls, wobbly paving and a webcam blue-tacked onto the focus assembley...

Might not look like much - but it's the very first time, in more than 15 years of occasional observing that I've seen features on mars with my own eyes smile.gif

(should) the new LM have an airlock?  Seems wasteful to depress the whole cabin... especially over and over again during a 7 day stay.

I'd say that you'd GOT to have an airlock, and cycle EVA's 2 by 2, getting as much surface time as possible.

If a baseball theme is what it takes to get peoples attention, then so be it.

It's a bit 'tabloid' - but you have to go down that road to get the publics attention now-a-days.

It doesnt degrade data, it doesnt take scientist or engineers away from the project, it doesnt use Cassini's fuel - it's just a PR theme. No harm done.

Thing is - do you have it on the day Spirit landed, or the day the last rover sent it's last signal?

THAT is a thought - as long as you were at a venue that could have decent 'net access - you could web-feed from one event to the other - perhaps Pasadena, and somewhere in Europe. Too many venues and then too many people would end up just looking at webfeeds all day - and you want that party atmosphere smile.gif

Muses Sea...that's BAD smile.gif

(for those that dont know, Japan usually has a bland name for a spacecraft at launch, in this case Muses-C, and then renames it after launch, in this case to Hayabusa)

You've got a laminator - that's cheating smile.gif

I totally screwed it up last night - trying to make a cube, not noticing that the corners are turned inside out (you'll know what I mean)

I'm almost done smile.gif

When ordering a whole load for my talks - I just googled for anaglyph glasses and found a company that sell card ones by the 10,20, 50 and 100, and also plastic ones as well.

I'm sure a bit of goolging would find a supplier near to you.

I trained the world-leading power of my 114mm reflector-with-a-dent-in-the-tube on Mars last night.

Conclusions from the exercise "ooo -it's all beige"

I think what the far side of Erebus tells us is that the sandy ocean of Meridiani is history and that actually - whilst there may be some harsh driving obstacles on the way to Victoria, it's going to be interesting getting there.

I think I'll finish mine tonight...I'm cheating and using double sided tape...but then I'm taking the time to put a bit of card on the back of the main panels for a bit of added strenth.

Not sure about the antenna component though - it should be really fine wire, but then the cat would take her eye out on that so I'll just go with what's printed smile.gif

There's a model of the Japanese cute-sat somewhere, but it's onle 1/2 scale and isnt as good as that one smile.gif
