I'm bringing this particular line of discussion to a close.

Messenger - I've asked you in private to keep out of the conspiracy junk, and you're not done it. So I'm asking again in public.

I've has to delete lots of posts in this thread - so we can get it back on track.

I've recieved multiple complaints about this, and I totally agree with their sentiment. Consider yourself warned. That's twice now - and regulars here will know, that's twice more than the norm.

I apologise to those other than Messenger who's posts I've culled, but they just look a bit silly without Messenger's posts between them smile.gif

Well - I saw a reasonable colour image at the BAA conference - it showed a general brown colour, but there were different shades across the surface, some brighter areas etc.

I'm guessing there's no flatfield or darkfield for the Surveyor stuff ( where can you get it all anyway?)
If you took all the surveyor frames that didnt include the 'sky' and averaged them, you might get an appropriate 'flat field' - which you could then invert, and overlay at a few percent opacity on all the other frames.

Oo - my bad, thought it was a straight copy. Perhaps it was just a copy of the electronics and optics - but had the filter wheel dropped in for the flyby.

Ok - I know - a totally pointless stat, but I've noticed that we've passed 1,000,000 topic views

We're actually on 1,186,771 - but I hadnt looked for ages smile.gif

1382 topics, 20259 posts, and we're now averaging almost exactly 100 posts per day, and 4 away from our 500'th member smile.gif

We have a LOT of lurkers smile.gif

For the technical end - August saw a use of 30.64 Gig (1/4 of the limit) - and trending current growth we're safe for some time to come - certainly the next 12 months are looking rosie, and donations have helped ensure we can upgrade if need be when the time comes.

What on earth happened on August 24th by the way - we shifted double the usual data then! Was it the Husband hill pans?

It's deep into the Blue, whereas the dust is mainly red, so it can see 'thru' the dust.

I think the MRI, as with the impactor camera ( they were exact copies I believe) were sans-filters, the Cometary equiv of Navcam.

Oh yes - you can do that - I certainly would, I link back to here etc - just so people know. Who knows - someone might go "wahg - £200." - and that would be great.

Nope - it's just clear filtered stuff

I mean - you could fake some, but there's no colour to be had from the data.

The winning question was the S1K bug, simply because Steve and I both joked about it - and as dot.dk already has a copy of the book, he's kindly donated it back to UMSF

I want to raise money to send down to help with Katrina clear up - so your call guys - do we do some sort of raffle - 50 tickets at 50 pence a go to raise a guarenteed £25, or do I put it on ebay and the best bid wins?

I think the maths works differently on inflation - a 1.5 bar tyre would be inflated to 0.5 bar by your maths, and that would be almost explosive in space if it were to puncture I'd have though.
