So Tethys is the 'static' one which was targetted, and Dione moved past.

Just doing the Pandora + Ring movie that's on the raw's as well.

GET OUT THE INTERNET CAFE PHIL, for the only day of the year, it's Sunny in the UK and you're WASTING it

Cool eh? smile.gif

I'm afraid my IcySats knowledge is terrible - and I just go from what the raw images website tells me..and it says Tethys....if anyone can fill me in on the 'other' one smile.gif

Hands up if you thought the darker moon was going to go infront of the brighter moon !

Woo-hoo!  I'm on vacation in the UK,

I apologise, on behalf of the whole nation, for the total and utter Cricket obsession that's going to at the moment. It looks like we might actually win something, and that's a rare enough occasion to warrent plenty of attention smile.gif

Enjoy the UK smile.gif

I hereby nominate 'Oasis Leasure Centre, Swindon" - as they've got a great wavemaker in their pool.

I see lots of small ones on the latest image, but any large ones would have smashed what is likely to be a fragile body to pieces.

Much like the colour image from DI, or the occasional colour image from NEAR...it showed very little colour variation. It's only when stretched to hell and back that you get something like the freaky colours Galileo showed us of the asteroids it visited en-route.

A full HiRISE frame is 6.6 times taller than that as well smile.gif

Pity they didnt get the earth as well - that would have been astonishing.

Just so you know - those are not 'real' images, they are renderings using images from MOC WA imagery on a daily basis.

I think the thing to do would be to wait for MER mission end (a tragic thing to wait for, I know ) and then schedule something 1 yr in advance - so everyone can plan for it, save up for it etc etc. Get some good speakers in, try and tie it in to the w'end before a big conference so the people will be around.

Jason has mentioned in the past that some members of the imaging team actually check in on the raw images website to see what has and hasnt come down, so would could infer that they all go on there.

QUOTE (Jyril @ Sep 9 2005, 06:54 PM)
Wasn't Carolyn Porco the one who first discovered the spokes in Voyager images? I remember she was interviewed about them in BBC's The Planets series.

Yes indeed.

Did she say "I never have to put a slide about spokes in my talks because I know someone will always ask about them" ? smile.gif

I have most of the MER press briefings <and landing> on VHS and the most recent one on DVD-R.  I intend to transfer all to DVD and hope to make them available.

Hellloooooooooo - would you like to step this way... wink.gif

Is there any way I could get a copy of that stuff? I'd really like the Spirit EDL sequence, and the first-uhf-pass-with-images, totally unedited smile.gif

A friend of mine relied on AAVSO observations as part of his thesis into Cataclysmic Variables. He's an X-ray astronomer now, but the visual reports really helped.

The figures I've heard are 10m of strata at Endurance, and up to 40 at Victoria.

A new world record - Mike Malin releases an image less than 6 months after it was taken

wink.gif

To be fair - he wasnt too shoddy with the MER stuff, but usually he's terrible!

Glad everyone likes it biggrin.gif

If anyone from the BBC is reading. Yes - I would like a job as a science reporter, particularly in the space field.

Didnt someone admit to licking their thumb and leaving a dna-laden thumb print just under a thermal cover on something - a Voyager or a Pioneer I'm sure.

I agree - people are not thinking when they reply to posts that have huge images in them. Remember - you can go back and edit posts to cull a quoted image if you want to. I dont have the time or patience to go thru and edit 50 badly quoted posts a day.

Hopefully v2.1 of the board will have something that can help this.
