Hm. Or rather D'oh!
but can't you -very roughly- extrapolate this info, from different devils through different filters?

To have at least an idea of the true colors?
*

Well - we'll need the one or two times DD's have been caught by pancam to filter thru to the Workbook before taking the IMG's and having a go then - but it'll be a while

Unfortunately - because they move so quickly - it's impossible to photograph them really - as one has to cycle between three filters to make a colour image - in which time the devil's moved 100 metres or more

I was THIS close ( finger and thumb just about touching ) from just deleting the post - but thought that would be a bit of overkill - I think the point is made, the guy was over the line in terms of what is and isnt right for here.

The later it goes in the window, the smaller the MOI delta V I guess...dont want to wait TOO long though smile.gif the less dV we need for MOI - the longer the mission can last smile.gif

Astonishing fact of the day

The MOI engines for MRO are 6 of the descent engines designed for the orig 2001 Mars lander ohmy.gif

It's the same hole for sure - but wow - lot of dust dumped in there

One would hope that if the nearby dust was blown INTO the hole - then dust would also be blown OFF the rover smile.gif

This is why impact missions to Mars fail

Surely this would also have killed Viking, Pathfinder, and the rovers. Anything big enough to have killed DS2 would have killed previous succesfull spacecraft as well.

The Mars 96 probes never left earth orbit incidentally.

Your hill profile makes an excellent point - the view from there wont be THAT good - unless someones come round earlier and built a viewing platform wiht a nice etched-plaque pointing out the local sites etc

Shuttle landing and MRO launch inside 24 hrs was almost too much for me to handle.

But MRO HAS to go in this window - so I hope they dont have to delay too long - the weather at KSC recently has demonstrated how hard it can be to get a break meterologically.

There is a text link at the bottom of that page to Amazon, looks like a referral type thingy....might be something similar to what you were looking for.

Yup - thats what I want. Amazon.co.uk wont let me have just that rolleyes.gif - but Amazon.com looks like it will - so that's what i'll look for.

The main stream media is officially crap at space.

A sunday paper here described the three spacewalks recently as all being unplanned. GRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I must admit - I googled-newsd to keep an eye out for Steve interviews etc, and found lots of very very old news stories coming up as new today - perhaps the news websites refresh their pages with new adverts/links etc - and thus google thinks it's a new news story.

the 'far' summit is in the second frame from the right.
the near summit is beyond the right hand edge.

We CAN communiate with the rovers..but we're not scheduled to. If something happened to Odyssey we would.

Pathfinder/Viking/MER/MPL/B2 landing sites...they cant wait to image them - very exciting to look at - important data for understanding the sites and act as a ground truth. Try to look for other landers, given the resolution and size of spacecraft we anticipate being able to look for them. Beagle we hope to find the parachute and give a big target to look at.

None of the questions I saw at the MRO site were asked - perhaps they're for a different conf?

Why don't you put up an Amazon link thingy on the site so we can buy via you, and help defray the board costs by doing so?

Actually - I setup stuff to do this - but the revenue is TINY and the banner adverts are just..huge, ugly and intrusive.

I'd like just a simple link, but seemingly that's too simple for amazon - I'm still looking though :0

If we're lucky - they'll be fielding a lot of questions submitted to their website - including one asking if Electra will be used with MER at any point
