I know this picture doesnt look like much. It's grainy, it's bleached out quite a bit

But you owe it to yourselves to look at that picture, and think.

There is a rover climbing a hill on mars.

Isnt that amazing?

If you think hard enough - you can actually imagine being there. Walking with a rover, that we sent half a billion km's to a whole other world.

Sometimes, an image will just catch me off guard and I'll go "wow - LOOK at what we can do!"

There was a max limit on attachment size, because people were using the place as a file-library.

I've lifted it up to 1 meg.

Galileo and NEAR both did it - producing movies of the flybys by the time they'd finished

They do a mix of forward and backward driving, it's to keep the cogs well greased.

QUOTE (dilo @ Jun 26 2005, 05:56 AM)
Doug, I understand the issue, but I still disappointed... Is sad to see Oppy inactive, especially after the fantastic work they made to free it! (Do we need and asiatic MER team?  biggrin.gif )
Anyway, do you know, approximately, when it will possible to restart normal activities?
Thanks.

Restricted sols are an every-now-and-again thing, not a "rover off for 9 days" type thing

They mean that the rover can do stuff, but just nothing that requires people in the loop. It could spend the whole day doing a full remote-obs day or something like that

It's not a matter of people working at night - it's simply that the planning team involves the scientists and engineers, and for more than a year, they've been working from their home institutions on a normal work schedule. You just can not maintain mars-time for a prolonged period - it will burn you out.

It's a good laugh watching it - pity they wont put a webfeed on for it instead of sequential stills tongue.gif

Evidently MRO is shy about getting dressed.. smile.gif

I think that's the big cover that seems to hang above anything they move around with the crane, which I previously mistook for a fat-guys shirt.

They've certainly made more progress 'around' than 'up' - but they're still making good progress 'up' all the same smile.gif

Allow me to go..AH HAAAAAAAAA

smile.gif

Right - so we've got two ref points now - drive distance coming up smile.gif

Range 15.1m and size 14cm pre-drive
Range 9.7m and 15cm post drive

Drive distance, actually only around 6m

Thanks for finding some common features - I was a little lost there!

I'm away over the weekend, probably off line.

I've tried to, but cant find common features from yestersols imagery and tosols post-drive imagery Either means quite a big drive ( 30-50m+ ) or they pulled a blinder and did something shocking, like..turn left smile.gif

Well - they had a sol off it seems, and now had a drive sol today - although I'm struggling to line up pre-drive and post-drive imaging to find a common feature - looks like a slight turn up to the left though - and quite a climb smile.gif
