Love this one of two of the decent rockets, a landing leg, the ICC camera and the disturbed ground under the lander. |

More 'selfie' images planned for 5006? Maybe filling in the missing bits on the left and bottom? The post you are talking about is nearly 10 years old! It's not too surprising that some links are broken and now redirect to something else entirely. |

You can go through the JSON site which is still working. http://json.jpl.nasa.gov/data.json leads to sol list: https://merpublic.s3.amazonaws.com/oss/merb...e_manifest.json leads to page for sol: http://merpublic.s3.amazonaws.com/oss/merb...es_sol4356.json which has URL to JPG: http://merpublic.s3.amazonaws.com/oss/merb...E1P2351L2M_.JPG Recommend Chrome with JSONView plugin to make links clickable or it is relatively simple to use Python scripts to batch download what you want. James, I don't see how you filled in the data dropouts, I couldn't find any retakes for the ones that had them in mine. Unless you used images from 4336 or other Sol's at a different location. I cheated and used whatever was available to make the colour, so some parts only use L25 or L57 rather than the full L257. |

The direction for the entry phase will be well known, shouldn't be any problem getting it within a Navcam frame. Whether anything will be visible is another matter. Probably 50/50 that you could get the decent within a Navcam frame (based on the landing ellipse) but as the parachute will be less than 1/2 a pixel across* I don't think that will be doable anyway. *Unless it's at the far end of the ellipse and heading for Eagle crater |

One problem is Shiaparelli is landing to the west, so if Oppy is still in Endeavour crater come October I don't think she'll have a line of sight. If we are back out by then then I would imagine that a few Navcams would be taken in that direction at the right time just to try. It might be possible to see the entry phase, not sure how bright that would be. |

On Saturday 30 April 2016 there is a British Astronomical Society one day meeting on 'Robotic exploration of the Solar System' Just a few quid for a day of talks (even for non members), any UMSF members who are in the UK would be crazy not to attend! Loads of great talks, as well as essentially a 30 minute advert for UMSF by yours truly! https://www.britastro.org/chelmsford2016 Look forward to seeing lots of you there. James |
