Here is my Cabo Corrientes/Bahia Blanca.

I've gone for a 'less red' look than usual, not sure what I prefer, hmm.

Interesting information and thread over at nasaspaceflight.com

They also have an image from a webcam on Odyssey *after* the event (doesn't show much, but shows it's still there!)

They also have a better quality video (you need to be registered)

What would be real cool is if simultaneous observations could be done with HiRISE and Hubble to get stereo images of the outer planets. cool.gif

They are at quite low resolution, but past episodes of The Sky at Night can be viewed here. They are usually posted a couple of weeks after airing in the UK.

a map *without* the cape labels. I think those ones are extremely useful --thanks James for the original idea and Steve for making the layer used here-- but this route map is becoming a bit "cluttered"

I agree, I think the route map is better without them.

Note that I have been keeping my Victoria feature names map updated with all known cape, bay and other (resolved in HiRISE) features as a complement to the route map.

Here is that latest:

Just checking on the acronyms:

WFC = Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 (works fine)
SBC = ?
WFC UDF = ?

WFC = Wide Field Channel (of ACS - busted)
SBC = Solar Blind Channel ((possibly) the only channel of ACS still working)
UDF = Ultra Deep Field?

James

EDIT: and you didn't mention: HRC = High-Resolution Channel (also gone)

Wow, real interesting to hear your stories.

I was 11 and had received a month before, by Christmas, a miniature shuttle.

I was just 8 and for Christmas I had just received one of my first serious books on space, it was called 'Exploring Space' and the front cover had a previous Challenger launch photo on it. Such an optimistic book with a shuttle on the front that was going to do all these great things, how quickly it all changed. The book, with my 6 year old sisters 'Christmas 1985' message inside, is one of my most treasured possessions to this day.

And for those of you that like mind bending super-long-baseline anaglyph's. Here is one using the images from 1067 and 1071. blink.gif pancam.gif

As we move out onto Cape Desire it looks like the focus is on the next bay, Bahia Blanca. Posts from the last few sols moved to a new thread for this bay. smile.gif

Here is a long baseline anaglyph from the navcams taken at the 1069 and 1071 positions.

And here is my version of the 1071 view of Bahia Blanca (full resolution)

I doubt the full pan will happen,

So do I.

What I would be happy with is if the Bahia Blanca mosaic could be extended to the Soup Dragon. That would be a fabulous image with Hoy, all those big fallen rocks, the next few capes and the Dragon herself. smile.gif pancam.gif

I wish I had time to play with Cassini images, but I see there is no need anyway with all the great stuff being done by you lot smile.gif

Dan, I think the consensus now is that that 'track' is an artifact not a real DD track.

Too much light here in Sydney to see the faint stuff. I just wish I had the chance to get out of the city. Still, can't complain it's still totally awesome!

Here's my best shot, we could see a little more with the naked eye.

Indeed. smile.gif This was my view of it:

McNaught on the left, Venus on the right and the moon just above the city.

Now I'm confused.
Wasn't the images for the long baseline those from the positions as of sols 1058 and 1060? Perhaps the confusion is because they were actually taken on sols 1060 and 1061 but *before* driving?

Ah sorry about that, it seems I was even more confused than I realized! I assumed that the images that came down were from the long baseline sequence - and they are clearly from after the drive. But those are in fact the "drive direction" images (I hope they don't!). Still, they made for a good *very* long baseline image.

Saw it again last night, even though we lost it into cloud half an hour before it set and Sydney was quite hazy (not least from bush fires!) we could see at least 7 degrees of tail with the naked eye, incredible! Just me and 'science educator' Karl up at the Gap, he kept saying "We are SO lucky" I couldn't agree more! I just hope the weather holds for tonight now...

Well, I must have a mind that is quite a bit distorted. blink.gif That one popped right into view for me, and it was amazing.

I probably should have been clearer. What I meant was *I* had to distort the images quite a bit to make a working anaglyph, removing the need for all of you lot to distort your minds too much. blink.gif wink.gif

Glad you enjoyed it.
