I can't check your files as I'm at work but I have never used the crop function withing Hugin (it didn't exist when i started using it!), I always crop MSL images with imagemagik first.
Hugin handles lines of bright/dark pixels at the edge very badly, even the single column of pixels at the edge of MER images I replace with the column next to it to improve the blending dramatically.

Also if you are using the assitant make sure it is not trying too hard with the exposure settings, do this manually instead. In particular I don't optimse for camera response and I optimse for exposure first and *then* vignetting as doing them simultaneously can cause it to get carried away with the amount of vignetting to apply (which should be very small!)

OK so I wrote my own demosiaicing algorithm, included a Fourier filter and a 'detect suspiciously green pixels and look for something more Mars-like nearby' procedure. Still have a greenish cast in many areas but I'm making progress. smile.gif

Click for image download options, including full 80 Megapixel 17MB version and Zoomify if you don't want to tackle that!

Because the full resolution version of the mastcam pan brings computers (let alone my iPad that I would like to use to browse it on my sofa) to their knees, I have splashed out on the HTML5 version of Zoomify to be able to view the full resolution version without having to download and try and open a massive jpeg.

It stands out more on mine becase there is a bigger difference between the artificial and real sky at that point. My full resolution image is so large that it took a long time to add the sky in. It is therefore a simple (circular) gradiant designed to mach the real sky on the left side of the image. It isn't so good on the right but I was unable to play around with it properly due to the image size. I may play around with it some more, but it is painfully slow to do.

Thanks Mike, I only hope to be able to do justice to this amazing camera in an amazing place.

I'm pretty sure I would need a *much* more powerful computer to handle a big (let alone 360) mastcam100 pan I'm on the limit as it is. Donations welcome... laugh.gif

Nice work Ant, I see you worked at 50%, a very good idea! I'm working on the full resolution 360x180 (29212x14606) and it is taking *forever*!

QUOTE (JohnVV @ Aug 21 2012, 10:20 PM) *
simple

open up the layer window and click on the top image
then move the slider to 50%

A better way of doing anagyphs in Gimp is to change the Mode of the top layer from 'Normal' to 'Addition'.

Looks like they imaged Mt Sharp with mastcam34 (and parts with mastcam100!) on sol 13. Thumbnails are avaiable.

James - where the heck (if you don't mind me asking) is image 79?? I can't find it anywhere. sad.gif That's the only one I'm missing.

http://mars.jpl.nasa.gov/msl-raw-images/ms...9000E1_DXXX.jpg

Just change the thumbnail 'I' for an 'E'. I have a script which checks all the thumbnails to see if there is a full resolution version.

For me it tooks more than an hour (on my Macbook Pro late 2007, Intel Core 2 Duo, 2Go of RAM).

Yeah, I used the brute force method this time and it took over an hour to blend (iMac, Early 2008, C2D, 4Gb). For big MER pans I tend optimise the order that images are blended which can speed this up dramatically. I'm working on a method of doing that automatically for MSL. This was required back in my G4 Powerbook days when it would take all day to do a full 360 Pancam panorama without careful optimisation.

Experimenting with an interactive VR version as they seem to be popular right now:

http://www.nivnac.co.uk/mer/vr/msl3/

@iMPREPREX I'm using Hugin it sometimes takes a bit of effort to get it to work with >100 images. Years of trial and error with MER has helped!

I remember hearing about dumping waste within SAM too, however I can find no mention of this procedure in the SAM paper (facinating reading though)

I'm not sure that setting quality=100 actually produces a lossless file (not JPEG-LS) I use PNG for lossless output. However as the source images are jpegs there is very little harm in using a little compression to get to more managable file sizes, I normally use jpeg quality between 90 and 95 with no obvious degradation to my eye.
