Don't know - that one works for me. But totally different OS so that's probably not saying a lot. Do any work when selecting from that list? 2 and 3 are not 'steps' but 'options'. What do you mean you cannot perform them? What happens when you try them? |

Nothing wrong with making assumptions, you can test them easily by trying them. Re: viewing different panoramas Assuming you have left all the defaults in selecting images (i.e just changed view type from Slideshow to Panorama) then lots of panoramas should have loaded, you have several ways of viewing the different ones. 1) Click on the Time intervals tab - you'll get a list of all the sites loaded - some even with notes saying what it is - click on any to see that panorama. 2) You can go from one Pan to the next by clicking the '[' and ']' keys (or using the buttons on the right end of the button bar) (or by clicking on Navigate -> Next Time interval 3) Clicking on the blue and red squares within the current panorama to move to that location. |

Belated Happy birthday Stu! As Paolo pointed out you are in fact 23 on Mars. I'm sure I've posted this before, but here is a nice page on the Exporatorium site where you can find out you birthdays on other worlds. I'll be 17 (MY) in 5 weeks time! Better start planning the party. |

I don't think you can say that based on this plan, as we stopped to image Ranger anyway. No driving on sol 1789 is likely a result of it being the weekend, restricted or not she could still have driven on that sol. Of course we could be in restricted sols, I have completely lost track of when they fall. |

An update gleaned from the PDT: Second part of the Ranger pan tosol (to make a 15x2) then driving the sol after next (1780). |

Yes, as far as I can see, all the information is retained when using the JP2_to_PDS and PDS_to_JP2 applications. |

Without having MMB running in front of me it's a little hard to check/explain, but a few things to try. 1) Are you sure you don't have a panorama - the black screen could just be part of a very incomplete pan - try moving around with the mouse or arrow keys. (or select a different location with the P & N keys) 2) Try to limit the sols to just one location where you know there is lots of data - (e.g. Bonestell 1477 - 1696)* 3) One of the tabs should show a list of the sites/panoramas that have been loaded - look at that. 4) Maybe you haven't had the metadata updated properly, try doing an 'Update Metadata' from the 'Update' menu. EDIT: 5) What Tesheiner says * Before anyone says; yes I know that's not the exact sols that Spirit was at WH3, but those are the first and last dates of the Bonestell pan which is all I remember off the top of my head. |

I said make sure the limit to last update was unchecked (disabled, no tick) - else it will just load the images from the last update which could be 0. BTW: Try not to use .BMP format images as attachments. They are much harder to view than JPG's or PNG's and take up a lot more space. I've replaced your 1009kb image with a 30kb .PNG |

But how did you do that with IAS viewer ? It looks to me that IAS viewer operates only with 8 bit per pixel. I don't have the viewer at work so I can't explain things accurately here but on the left near where the viewer tells you the coordinates that the mouse is pointing it also tells you the pixel value (this goes up to 1000 or so). Also some of the buttons at the top-middle will tell you the pixel range and adjust the black/white mapping of the portion of the image you are viewing. Which software tool do you use to process/convert the JP2 to a 16 bit-per-channel image ? I read the images using the FreeImage C++ library for further processing. There is a special PDS_JP2 C++ class library, but it looked too complicated for me to work out at short notice when I started working on the 'ripple mapping' project. (I was already familiar with FreeImage as I use this when making the MER panoramas.) I have however used the JP2_to_PDS and PDS_to_JP2 standalone applications to do such things as crop out sections of the image I want. You may find it easier to convert to the PDS version depending on your experience/assessable software. See http://hirise.lpl.arizona.edu/tools/pds_jp2.php |

EDIT: @jamescanvin: within the 16 bit JP2s: did you also observe (color count) more than 256 distinct grey levels per image ? Yes, look with the IAS viewer there are around 1024 levels in a random image I just looked at (10 bit). However as ugordan points out that is likely to be 8 bit raw data that has been calibrated. In any case (for my one test case) there are not anywhere near the number of levels that would be expected for true 14bit data. |

The HiRISE JP2's are 16 bit images, at least the ones I've looked at, and they definately seem to have more than 8 bits of depth. Look at the accompanying label files. (.LBL) |

Just for you Oersted. Flat horizon version, seems to work quite well generally, but there a re a few areas that don't work well. Don't complain to me when it gives you a headache. And here are the images taken after the drive off HP looking back at the slide. Loving all those disturbed rocks caused by all that trying to get up on top. James |

Spirit wasn't Exactly. For the best 3D effect the way your eyes look at the anaglyph should be the same as when Spirit looked at it, by keeping it this way it means you don't have to tilt your head or put up with strange distortions. . I do have both the left and right colour pans made with a flat horizon, so I may try and put them together and see how the it looks when I get the chance. |

They seem OK to me - maybe just a temporary glitch (my hosting sometimes is a little slow) try again. Also the large image is VERY large - 153 MegaPixels. Some browsers assume that such large dimensions can't be true, and flag the image as corrupted. So you may want to try right clicking and choosing 'save linked file as...' instead. |

Glad to be of help. Talking of the RAT, is anybody else worried to see a sequence of identical pancams and fhazcams of the RAT on 1764. I assume it should have been moving between those shots. http://qt.exploratorium.edu/mars/opportuni...BBP2137R1M1.JPG http://qt.exploratorium.edu/mars/opportuni...BBP2137R1M1.JPG http://qt.exploratorium.edu/mars/opportuni...BBP2137R1M1.JPG http://qt.exploratorium.edu/mars/opportuni...BBP1148R0M1.JPG http://qt.exploratorium.edu/mars/opportuni...BBP1148R0M1.JPG http://qt.exploratorium.edu/mars/opportuni...BBP1148R0M1.JPG |
