The Bonestell pan is finally all down! here is my version.

And a Mars bar to the first person to spot what is missing from this pan that is in (I think) every other large 360 degree pan from the rovers.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean.

If your talking about the indentation in the ground in that image - that is from the Mössbauer

Also I've noticed some MER documentaries suggest the first pancam shots were taken AFTER the mast(s) were raised...
(awaits space geek points...) smile.gif

Err, they were weren't they? Only one pair of Navcams were taken before the PMA was raised.

I feel like I'm really missing out, I'm gonna have to find a copy of this show.

My terrain mapping (and in fact my MER image processing as well) does quite a bit of converting of number arrays to image pixel values using the FreeImage C++ library. If you sent me the file I could probably do the conversion to without too much trouble.

IDL can do it as well (not sure about the free GDL, never used it) using 'plotgrid'. Not sure if you could get 16bit images using this method though (if you needed that).

Official "Bonestell" panoramas available (annotated, stereo, false color, true color).
http://marsrovers.nasa.gov/gallery/press/s.../20081230a.html

Note that this still isn't the finished version - the caption says there are 82 pointings, however it looks to me like they missed three at the lower right that had already been downlinked so there are actually only 79 in that version. The finished article should have 86.

I found the rotated 'ground frame' anaglyph distorted and very hard to view. IMO anaglyphs should be left in the 'rover frame' as that is the orientation that Spirit's 'eyes' saw the scene, otherwise your going to have to rotate your head as you pan across.

So here is my version to say Happy Birthday Spirit! Oh and as an added bonus my anaglyph is in colour - L234567&R123 that's 720 individual images. smile.gif

Enjoy,

James

Just checked the size of my 'Space' folder: 115Gb (out of 251Gb currently on the disk, including OS etc.)

Edit: and another 10.5Gb of that is for all the HAPS balloon flight images etc. So at least half of my computer disk is UMSF related. smile.gif

Garrels was taken in colour but in the end the L2 & L5 were discarded before being downlinked to free memory so it is only in L7.

And suspiciously named 'pancam_drive_dir_4x1_L2R2' as well. smile.gif

Of course just because drive direction images have been taken is no guarantee that we are leaving soon. The view is unlikely to change much however long we stay. wink.gif

I think that this pancam is pointed at the rear of the right side array which shows very little change compared to other parts shown in the navcam image.

Well I still haven't found a satisfactory way of removing the lens dust effect, so here is Santorini without any correction.

Err, I've been busy (and unwell - can't cope with these northern hemisphere winters! I'd be on the beach if I was back in Oz.) Will get going again with this soon. smile.gif

A quick stitch of some shots from Sols 1720&1721 of this excellent 'pavement' on my webpage.

That is great. I love these 'low-sun' images of the pavement at Meridiani, it brings out so much detail smile.gif

BTW, these aren't shots for the big panorama; they were specifically taken late in the day (1700 LST) for another sequence. No colour with these - but there are some anaglyphs to be made. wink.gif

Well it fixes the problem of people waste their time navigating through four links to try and find the T49 document. Saved me a minute or two - so it was worthwhile to point it out IMO. smile.gif

Of course if the point was to try and get the documents to appear, then as you say, posting here clearly isn't going to help.

Why not note it here? It saves people clicking through all the links to get to the page, only to find that the more recent stuff that they are likely to be after (considering this is a T49 thread) is not there yet.

Conjunction is over, so it is probably a good time to start a new thread.

I just saw this update from Scott via Twitter

As am I smile.gif

I'd love to see more of these endless panoramas as well - and as I think I said at the time, if I had the code, I'd happily produce them and host them alongside the normal jpgs on my site.

I have a feeling a couple of new ones are not far away smile.gif

As Shaka says that rock is Santorini itself, so hopefully we'll know what it is soon.

Would it be a surprise if the cobbles turned out to be meteorites? I haven't been following the theories too closely.

Drivability analysis for the whole trip! smile.gif

Small version overlayed on Tim's map as well as really big versions if anyone is interested.

Endeavour looks amazing!

Another nice surprise - I was under the impression that this new HiRISE image (PSP_010341_1775) didn't overlap with the ones we already had. But as I was adding terrain overlays onto Tim's map I realised that they do! So we now have the whole route from Victoria all the way to those amazing hills on the Endeavour rim. smile.gif

Further to my post in the anaglyph thread here is a link to one of the images of the west rim of Endeavour:

Can't wait to get home after work to have a good look at it and run the terrain analysis. smile.gif

Well there are already loads of anaglyphs to pour over in a subdirectory of the link Peter59 gave in the other thread.

http://hirise-pds.lpl.arizona.edu/PDS/EXTRAS/ANAGLYPH/

I just clicked randomly into the last one and what do I see?

MERIDIANI FROM 'MINI ENDURANCE' TO ENDEAVOUR! AS AN ANAGLYPH!
(EDIT: Actually that's not 'mini Endurance at the top left, it would be a bit SW of that crater)

http://hirise-pds.lpl.arizona.edu/PDS/EXTR...SP_010486_1775/

I nearly fell off my chair. smile.gif

Well I see the images have been very ratty over the last few days/sols so it looks like conjunction really has started now (unlike when I posted my Bonestell update rolleyes.gif )

So here is the first bit of the Santorini Panorama that made it down largely intact.

And although that report you link is dated with today's date, it is a verbatim copy of a rover update that was posted on the MER site nearly two weeks ago! Very poor 'journalism' there.

So by 'this coming weekend' read 'a week or so ago' rolleyes.gif

The Rover Update on the Planetary Society says that the shake has already happened and failed to dislodge any dust (or the dust is on other optical parts) and they will now just leave the cover open and hope for a wind cleaning event.
