The most significant space flight place I've been is Woomera in south Australia - one of the oddest towns you'll ever visit as the entire place was an off limits military base not that long ago.

There is a fascinating Museum and Missile park, I must sort out my pictures for you lot, but in the meantime here is a picture of me next to Britain's only orbital launch vehicle the Black Arrow.

Sorry to be all engineering-minded here, but I thought those images were to get better lighting around the rear wheels. In the afternoon they're in shadows and it can be hard to make anything out.

Well maybe.

But I would have thought a longer exposure while the wheels were in shadow would have been better than doing that if it were needed. Then you would have a nice diffuse illumination with no shadows of the wheel itself obscuring part of the ground.

I would say yes.

The normal end of drive hazcams were taken as planned at 13:00 LST

CODE
01619  13:04:35  p1212.09. 1    0   2   2   0   2   2   front_haz_ultimate_2_bpp_pri15
01619  13:03:46  p1313.02. 1    0   3   2   0   2   2   rear_haz_ultimate_3bpp_pri15

Then hours later at 16:35LST another rear hazcam shot was taken, and taken at a higher quality.

CODE
01619  16:35:12  p1314.00. 1    0   2   2   0   2   2   rear_haz_ultimate_4bpp_pri15

I can see no need for that apart from for coolness. smile.gif

Err, no. The green/blue were 2x2 binned but the red was at full resolution.

Not true.

Well I would argue that that it was a true statement - I just omitted (forgot) the other red channel. smile.gif

When you originally posted I only let the large file load as far at the met mast and that looked good to my quick glance but looking at some of the terrain does indeed show that a lot of detail has been lost compared to my version. How odd...

Err, no. The green/blue were 2x2 binned but the red was at full resolution. (except for the deck which really was down sampled but their version doesn't include that anyway)

Hence why mine has similar dimensions to their large version. 26642 vs 26720 pixels for the full 360

I believe that was asked at the press conference and the answer was no, perchlorates would not have produced the results seen in the Viking experiments.

Ant, in this post the x-axis is given in time past a given UTC, you should be able to get some accurate times off that.

We had started to discuss the news that Oppy is on her way out in two separate threads, some posts moved to the Leaving Victoria crater thread. Lets continue things over there.

Yeah that was my plan. smile.gif My last set came from a crappy mag that has a set to go with some 3D tv show that was on in Oz a few years back.

The think I've probably still got the old ones tucked safely inside a book somewhere for transport but I have too many books to be able to find it again!

And for those of us that can't get to the path of totality you can watch a live stream from NASA.

I guess so, it was downloading very slowly and although I tried it on multiple machines it was on the same internet connection, seems to work fine from work this morning (and lyford was kind enough to mirror a copy, thanks). I'll now email it to myself at home just to be sure. smile.gif

Hi Mike,

Just been setting up my shiny new iMac. smile.gif

And of course the first thing (no joke) I did was try and install MMB. However I can't seem to get the intel OSX binary to download properly. I've since tried it on another machine and still get the same problem.

You mean there WAS material stuck to the screen, it has disappeared an in images taken an hour later! Fallen in or sublimed away, can't wait to find out. Very exciting!
