Go to the HiRISE page for the latest versions. No full res yet but some pretty big .tif images are there, with and without the insert.

Thanks to Mark I've filled in the missing bit in yestersols pan with the sol 3 data, and extended each side with the sol 7 stuff.

This isn't that great, but it's late. The shadows are quite different between many of the frames making things difficult for my software. And I still haven't had a chance to implement a fix for the misalignment between some of the filters.

Note this includes the disturbed regolith from the first scoop.

Quite well I would expect, the images of the scoop taken during cruse when it was very dark inside were good.
However, calibration shouldn't be too difficult given the data the team has, I doubt we'll see them resort to night time shots.

Of course you'd have to wait a good while yet for any night to arrive!

That's been asked a number of times before around here.

It's to clean the RAT, in particular the magnets on the RAT I believe.

I can't ever remember it being used however.

QUOTE (Deimos @ Jun 2 2008, 01:13 AM) *
Working that. There is a zone where elevation backlash is acting unstable. I have an idea what to do, but in terms of getting new diagnostics up there are still bigger fish to fry, so it may be a little while.

Thanks for the reply Mark, I guess I'll work on my own fix to realign the images in the meantime. smile.gif

I don't know if I have missed the central section of this mosaic, I'm still trying to get my head around the Phoenix data. If anyone can find it let me know.

Also as I mentioned in the SSI reference thread, there is a inconsistent offset between the pointing of the filters in some images so the full resolution image is a little hard on the eye in places. blink.gif Fixing this in my processing software will take some work.

I don't think it can be optical characteristics as some images have the shift and some don't, it is very inconsistent as far as I can see.

EDIT: On further investigation it looks like the shift between the 1,B and C filters in the 3 problem frames in the sol 6 mosaic I posted in the other thread is approximately the same in each of them. But why are the other 5 fine? I'm confused!

Can someone explain to me why some of the SSI images taken through different filters don't have the same pointing? The difference doesn't seem to be reflected in the metadata info imbedded in the images either, so I'm finding it all but impossible to correct for it automatically in my processing software.

Cheers,

James

Off the top of my head, missions I'd like to see, in order of preference:

MESSENGER
Hayabusa: Return to Earth
Dawn
New Horizons

That has puzzled me too. I can only think that they are calibrating the joints so they can check for any problems more easily after driving with the arm unstowed.

--Split MECA posts to a dedicated thread

I'm on the DVD smile.gif

I read about the MECA plaque a while back, now where was it?...

Ah yes the BBC Phoenix blog (near the bottom):

Well you've all already seen a version of this at yesterdays press conference. But this is my first Phoenix mosaic so I thought I'd show it off anyway. smile.gif

As some of you may have noticed (thanks Algorimancer) the Phoenix raw image update on my site was corrupted earlier. For some reason things got garbled when I tried to FTP from work. It should all be fixed now.

Nice new pics.

For those of you waiting for me to repost filename corrected and zipped versions. My renaming program choked this morning trying to get it done for you before work, I'll try and sort the problem this evening (UK time)

EDIT: Now updated - see my sig

That is indeed interesting... now if we just had some handy utility to batch download the images and correct the file names.

Well I kind of have something that does that, however it is in no way ready for general use (particularly as most of you will be using Windows). However I have chucked the results on the web if it is any help to anyone:

http://www.nivnac.co.uk/phoenix/raws/

I'll try and keep it up to date. I've included a .zip of each sol to save some effort downloading.

Now that's done, time to get my MER panorama software to recognize Phoenix data. smile.gif

Me too, I've already got that nervous-butterfly's-in-stomach feeling., I'm going to be wreck come Sunday night!

Made the decision today to take Tuesday and Wednesday off work next week, in addition to the Bank Holiday Monday, to recover and work full time on Phoenix data*. smile.gif

* That in the spirit of this thread I'm 90% sure we'll have by then.

You know, not to be pedantic, but you can't have. UMSF didn't exist back when the MERs landed, even in its old guise of mer-project or whatever it was.

Believe it or not this is the first Mars landing for UMSF!

I never understood the reason to stow the arm on every little tiny drive.. Tiny drives that I can't imagine would do anything bad to the arm. Instead every drive they weared the joint motor during a stow+unstow. Longer drives over rough terrarin I would understand, but not tiny drives or drives over completely flat ground like around Victoria.

If you remember, they did experiment with doing small drives back in the 600's when the motor winding broke. The folks in the know, deduced that it could be a problem leaving it deployed and it was worth the risk to stow it. I believe that the thinking was that the motor was likely to fail due to day/night thermal cycling and not through extended use so it probably would have had this problem now regardless, and could have had a bigger problem earlier caused by shaking the deployed arm if the other option had been taken.
