Sorry for not being around yesterday, but we finally got all the material and equipment to fill the testing rig. It was a dirty job but somebody had to do it. I had tremendous help from my colleagues that swapped teh controls of the rovers for heavy lifting, wheel barrows, dust in their hair and all over their clothes. We are half whey done with filling the testing rig, hopefully that will be completed today. I'm sure pictures will be posted on the JPL web site. I will update you over the weekend.

Paolo

The latest update has energy production at 945 watt-hours with atmospheric opacity (tau) of 0.480 and an improved dust factor of 0.834.

Anyone remember what energy production was just after she land?

The highest was over than 1,000 Watt-hours when Spirit was at the top of Columbia mount during the summer time. When it landed, it was between 900-800 watt-hour

Seen on bumper sticker: FREE THE SPIRIT SIX

Seriously though, how many more watt-hours do we need to prove cold fusion?

Maybe a creative EE could figure out a way to sacrifice one of the IDD instruments and create a welder with all that power. Then it's just a matter of cutting off the bad wheel.

There are some nice shots of Paolo in the video on the left side of the Free Spirit site. rolleyes.gif

Unfortunately in the lead photo all we see of him is his back. ph34r.gif

The logo isn't available on a T-shirt yet that I've been able to find

Judging the photos in Spirit's Underbelly topic, I believe Oppy's wheels never sank that deep in Martian soil

Maybe focus the sun's rays through the MI and fuse the sand.

We are 3/4 done filling the testing rig. More than 4000lb of soil simulant mixed and set in the testing rig. There is video on the MER JPL page. Hopefully we will have the testing rig filled and properly set by EOD on Monday and wheel.gif the testbed rover on Tuesday.

While I appreciate the change of pace (no computer for two days!) I realized that if I had to earn my bread doing manual labor, I would not survive more than a couple of weeks :-(

I'm with you there, man, at least as far as shoveling stuff. If you've got a heating pad, suggest getting it on your lower back ASAP!
