So it seems, they take iron-55 and cadmium-109 as nuclides for APXS. Funny to see that they use similar isotopes like the Viking X Ray Fluorescence Experiment. http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/nmc/experimentD...id=1975-075C-13 10.1029/JS082i028p04577 |

For what it's worth, for a question re daylight hours for Chang'e-3 on the NSF forum, I used the JPL Horizons web interface and the coordinates from the LROC team (44.1214°N, 340.4884°E, 2640 meters elevation). This gives the following RTS (Rise, Transit, Set) times for the sun at Chang'e-3 site as follows for one year from Dec 2013.
(Note this refers to the geometric horizon defined by the reference ellipsoid (doesn't take terrain into account) but should be good within a few minutes at worst.) I'm sure many here have to tools to do as well or better but figured I'd post it for reference. CODE Date__(UT)__HR:MN Azi_(a-appr)_Elev

Yes! One downside (like we needed another downside!) of waiting 37 years for another landing on the Moon is that we have forgotten what it was like to have to wait 2 weeks for the sun to rise.
It's almost as cold here in Ontario today as it is up there in Mare Imbrium. This joke now officially recycled from the much more comfortable Mars. Phil -------------------- ... because the Solar System ain't gonna map itself.

Seems a long 2 weeks - watching that danged terminator creep leftwards night after night, like a snail. Almost there now...

It's OK, Astro0... the terminator on the far side was moving to the left. You couldn't see it, but it was. It all depends on which hemisphere you are thinking of!

Phil Or you could live a couple of degrees from the equator (like me) which throws a whole new light on the subject... pun intended Paul |
