I am starting a new thread for the exploration of the Pediment - we should see a climb onto its surface very soon. It's a rough surface so progress may be slow.

And here we are on top of the Pediment! (EDIT: spoke too soon, we are still in the ramp leading up to it, but well on the way). A tricky panorama - I adjusted it a bit here and there - and made a circular version. Thanks, Jan.

Onwards and upwards! Jan's panorama for sol 3390 in circular form. We can see out over the pediment surface now.

QUOTE (charborob @ Feb 20 2022, 03:22 AM) *
Sol 3390 Lmastcam:

WOW if i'm not mistaken that's the pediment, right? That broad, light-toned expanse with undulations that look like the same texture as seen from orbital imagery. It seems the pediment surface is fairly cobble & sediment-free which could make for easy driving (unlike the foreground!). The central ridge which runs down the middle and dominates the horizon in front of the rover seems to have several bedding layers. I'm somewhat surprised that the dip of those beds does not seem to gently slope downhill like the pediment does but rather appears horizontal. If these represent palaeo-surfaces then perhaps this suggests an age difference between the ridge and the pediment...

Contemplating climbing the sandy slope? Jan's panorama in circular form.
