The preceeding paragraph is quite clear:

By stacking 2x48 images I would have been surprised not to find even a tiny hint to a ring, if it would have been obvious, even with the jpegs. But it's something else to confirm a moon than to find a new one, particularly if it's outside the orbital plane of Charon, or if its orbit is very eccentric. |
