You mention "attendant ridges". This was my first impression of the "belly band" too, that it consisted of more than one parallel ridge.
However, looking at some of the New Year's 2005 images again, I think my eyes might have deceived me; that, in fact, breaks in the ridge near the moon's edge tricked me into thinking there were multiple ridges. Are there any images of Iapetus that unambiguously show a multiple ridge structure? |
