Back in 2000 SOHO achieved the first images of the far side of the sun using seismic holography on the MDI instrument. However, the technique was primitive and only allowed the center 1/3rd of the far disk to be imaged. A new technique delivers the entire disc of the far side in unprecedented resolution. movies and such here.
