I'm still having trouble figuring out the geometry - is this a limb shot and if so, what's the discrete "haze" layer to the right?

According to Roscosmos:
http://www.roscosmos.ru/NewsDoSele.asp?NEWSID=5834 Koronas-Foton made its first scientific discovery. New belts of activity have formed across the Sun. These belts are symmetrical and are in the Northern and Southern Solar hemispheres. |

Ooo...COOL shot, thanks for posting the link, Z! Are those flares, actually, or are they solar spicules? If the latter, lots more detail than I've seen before.
-------------------- A few will take this knowledge and use this power of a dream realized as a force for change, an impetus for further discovery to make less ancient dreams real.
