Quite a drive! Is anyone able to locate Spirit's location on the traverse/topograhic map?

So glad that ridge turned out driveable
And I love the view -I've been wondering from MOC-stuff what the centre of that crater holds and now, we get to see it sol 653 - 'Husband Crater' Nico -------------------- photographer, space imagery enthusiast, proud father and partner, and geek.

Wonderful Nico!!!
Always when I've been looking at these darker spots on Chawla Hill, exactly the left in your pan, I've got the impression someone emptied out (by sweep) a tub full of rocks and dark soil. Now when I have a look at your pan I see for the first time something related to Home Plate (in the second frame from right left, in front of the smaller two dark spots) could it be? More eroded and covered by soil? -------------------- |

Yeah, the central area resembles Home Plate, looks smaller, more fragmented, and dustier as you said. There are similar patches scattered about, like the one in the foreground.

Jvandriel, that's a very nice lookout!
There are even still more pictures for it on the JPL archive: http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/gallery/all/spirit_p651.html According the file code they are shoted from the same spot. But sadly no L7/R1 on 653 so far and L2 on 651. Btw. Is there still a limit for Attachments? Couldn't you deliver larger sizes than ~1MB? -------------------- |

Tman
here is the pancam view of Haskin Ridge taken on Sol 651 with the R1 pancam. I did not post this one because I thought it was already posted. The original one is 4.9 Mb. For the attachements there is still a max of 1 MB. I make all the panoramas as big as possible and for posting here, I resize them to less as 1 Mb. jvandriel |

QUOTE (Tman @ Nov 7 2005, 12:03 PM) Yup - the limit is, and will remain 1 Mb. 90% of the site bandwidth goes on attachments, and whilst we remain well under the monthly limit for bandwidth, that pattern wont be maintained if I allow larger attachments. Worse that that is the storage of attachments, currently standing at many hundreds of files, totaling 630Mbytes. A big storage problem in itself, but backing it up is even more so. (can you imagine re-uploading 630 Mbytes of attachments at 25 kb/sec ) Furthermore, the larger the image, the more server CPU time it takes to resize them for thumbnails on each post. I think 1Mb is plenty, given my responsibility to ensure the long term life and reliability of this place, if people want to post something larger, then almost all ISP's offer some web-space of some sort, and there are the free online image hosting firms etc. 25 Meg attachments would be lovely, but the place would be dead within a fortnight. It's an evil, but a very necessary one. Doug |

Yup - got that email - one of god-knows-how-many I got in only 4 days A.F.K. in London
I'm going to start a thread about it etc. tonight and find appropriate in-out points for say, 12 sections, then people can pick one or more sections to transcribe, and I can produce a nicely formatted PDF with the results Doug |
