Well - you're describing SAP - the 3d environment in which they program the rovers activities. Sadly, it will never make it into the public domain, nor the huge ammount of data needed to drive such a simulation. but oh boy, wouldnt it be amazing ohmy.gif

was wondering about that, because when they released Maestro to the public when the MERs landed, put out a few datasets and then promptly abandoned it, it looked like Maestro was some sort of dumbed-down version of what operations uses. I guess SAP is Maestro's superhero brother? is there much similarity?

Maestro is to SAP as Photoshop Elements is to Photoshop CS2 smile.gif

There was a movie of Spirit driving up near the summit, that was from SAP / RSVP ( similar thing)

rolleyes.gif Yes, is a lot of time... (see last map here)
anyway
Even if no movement was done, is a good idea to refresh with these vertical+polar projections, based on James great Panorama. In the first one (done at the usual 10cm/pixel scale) I underlined also approximate Erebus rim... consider, howewer, that topography introduce some distorsion, especially inside crater.

Yes, it’s over five weeks at Purgatory Pavement now. When MER-B arrived at this patch of outcrop around sol 631- two months ago- I thought they would grind a spot or two and proceed to the Mogollan rim about 80 meters to the south. Even before the IDD arm problem I was wondering why there was so little driving. The rover was on a perfect driving surface, and there was a fat science target just a few days drive away. The evaporate “paving stones” looked similar to what we had seen dozens of times before.

Whatever the thinking was, I really hope the IDD arm is used only on high priority targets once we finally start moving again.

I seems it will be very soon since Oppy has plenty pictures around him so it has no more places to take pictures. I don't know about the lenght time for IDD integration since it is already worn and need greater lenght of time to complete. smile.gif

Oppy will start moving again as soon as the JPL engineers have found a secure way to store her arm. Until then, we'll just have to wait.

Though her first move will be about one meter, right over to the festooned bedding, followed by mapping the whole exposure with the MI. Whether that will be followed by brushing and RATting and MTESing - the whole box and dice - remains to be seen.

I'm checking the Pancam Data Tracking web daily, looking for the seqs. which should indicate a planned move...

Pretty sure that somebody will make a post with big bold letters announcing the drive, but we must be patient.

I am just curious about the source of your information. I have already checked the MER Pancam Data Tracking Web Interface and see no an indication that Oppy will move one meter...

And the Great Steverino did stand forth from the Citadel of Mount Ithaca and did Proclaim in a Loud Voice:
"Once we've got Opportunity moving again, our first task is going to be to drive over to this spot and take a big Microscopic Imager mosaic on it, to document the cross-bedding in detail. "
And the Multitudes did Rejoice, saying: Lo! Our Mighty PI hath spaken! Rejoice and be Glad!
(insert emoticon for awed adulation)
