Phoenix Hits Mars Jackpot in October 2008 Spaceflight magazine
by Ken Kremer First 30 Sols: thats the title of my new 10 page article on p. 376-385. Features 5 Phoenix mosaics created by the team of Marco Di Lorenzo and Ken Kremer in the first few weeks of the mission in June 08, several are exclusives to Spaceflight. It takes a few months to appear in print. I have included comments from many team members and cited contributions from the international science collaborators. PLus plenty of Phoenix team images too The article describes the major events and results from landing to Sol 30, science instruments and also features my exclusive interview with Rob Manning on the story behind the historic Heimdall crater image and initial flight operations at SOC UA. Our 5 mosaics are: - Phoenix and the Snow Queen: (RAC) also published on cover of June 9 Aviation Week MAGAZINE and Jun 12, 2008 APOD http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap080612.html - Lander Deck Mosaic: alternate versions also in 7 July & 11 Aug 2008 AWST - Holy Cow Mosaic (RAC) - TEGA Mosaic (RAC) - Heimdall Crater in Color We are updating the mosaics as the mission progresses here is a link to the table of contents and cover: http://www.bis-spaceflight.com/sitesia.asp...-gb,en-gb,en-us http://www.bis-spaceflight.com/sitesia.asp...id/1649/l/en-us I'll be presenting these and more at my upcoming Phoenix lectures in FL, NJ and PA. anyone interested please feel free to contact me. a few here: FL Plantation Astronomy Club: Leesburg, FL, Oct 20, Mon, 8 PM. “Launching DAWN to Asteroids; Landing Phoenix on Icy Martian Jackpot”. "Phoenix and the Holy Cow" mosaic was also featured by Science News online magazine as their headline shot on their home page on November 13/14.
