Unmanned Spaceflight.com _ Important Announcements _ Political Discussion - Forum Rule 1.2

Posted by: Astro0 Oct 2 2013, 02:24 PM

To ALL forum members,
There have been a number of recent posts making various references to the current so-called US government shutdown.
These posts wander directly into and breach the very specific forum rule about 'no politics'. Rule 1.2
Posts making reference to politics and/or the shutdown are being immediately removed or if deemed appropriate answered by an Admin/Moderator to clarify the issue.
Take that response as the last word on the matter and no further discussion should be entered into.
There is more than enough information available to anyone taking a moment to check on the situation with any unmanned space flight related mission.eg: the http://planetary.org/blog blog is an excellent place to start.
Any member repeatedly breaching this matter will risk a suspension as per forum guidelines.
We appreciate your support of the Forum in this matter.

Just want to bump Astro0's excellent summary of this issue in light of the renewed MAVEN progress.

Look: We just really, really do NOT want to go there at all, in any way. Regardless of its nature or nationality, politics is a deeply contentious issue that strongly distracts from the subject matter of a focused forum like UMSF.

We've all been to forums that have degenerated into little more than name-calling contests. Well, that just ain't gonna happen here, not on our watch.

UMSF's reputation as THE premier forum for discussion of the exploration of the Solar System has been based entirely on the fact that this is a safe place from such nonsense in addition to maintenance for over a decade now of a very strong signal-to-noise ratio, arguably the highest such on the Internet for our subject matter.

I think it's quite safe to say that the admin/mod team will absolutely not compromise this special, valuable place's hard-earned quality for anything at all.

Therefore: Please think before you post.
